Outdoor education for kids

I had recently gone for an outdoor camp with pupils of age eleven in my school. There were about 200 pupils who had attended this camp.

It is true that for city kids to experience a campsite without the comfort of modern technology as well as their air-conditioner, it was really tough for them.

There were even kids who pretended to be unwell during the first night. A few cried as they missed their mothers at home. Most of them were their first time away from their parents and had to do most things independently with their teammates.

They also had to conquer their fear when they tried the high elements where they had to jump down from a third storey high on a zipline as well as rock climbing to a three-storey high wall.

There was also a tower circuit with obstacles at about 3 to 4-storey high. There were many fear elements but kids were encouraged not to give up easily but to conquer their fear.

With the outdoor sleeping environment, the pupils who did not bring insect repellents suffered many mosquito bites even though it was written in the packing list to bring.

They had to wash their own plates as well as experience outdoor cooking. Showering in large group was also something they were not used to.

They were away from city life to an environment of nature.

On the last day, they also had to wash the toilets and clean the campsite. They had experienced the meaning of perseverance as well as the need for teamwork.

The fact that not giving up would ensure that they have the right attitude to their future.

Regardless of how important education is to impart knowledge, the most important is to nurture the right character and attitude.

Even when a pupil does not do well in his studies, it is not the end if he does not give up in everything he does. It is only a matter of time that he will find success.

Not giving up is the start of success. Failure in grades is never a failure in life unless you give up. Good academic results do not always ensure a bright future.
