Not so gullible generation

in #steemiteducation5 years ago (edited)

When we were young, we may believe everything that our parents told us. Even when it was a lie, we simply believed without a shadow of doubt.

The current generation of children are no longer gullible since they are able to gain excessive information using google via internet.

They are learning social relationship beyond their age through online videos that are easily available on youtube.

They can easily research on sensitive topics like divorce or separation with the advancement of technology.

Against the authority figure

When we were young, we were always fearful of our teachers. Some teachers may even hit us and we would not dare to say a single word.

Children are different today. They know their rights and they know what is child abuse.

When they are not happy with teachers, they can even dash into the office of the principal to complain.

They are also able to spread a rumour or discontentment easily via social media.

They possess online power to go against anyone that we did not have when we were their age.

They are not going to accept the slightest unfairness even if they are wrong.

They do have the courage to challenge the authority figure even if it is the police.

Deceive me not

I have a student who is being taken care of by her grandmother. Her mother would visit her occasionally.

Regardless of how much her mother may assure her love for her but the abandon of her responsibility as a mother to take care of her daughter can never be able to convince my student that she still loves her.

She becomes quite rebellious in class and she often exhibits restlessness.

She has totally lost interest to learn.

She is unable to feel that her mother cares for her and she has told me that she has family problem more than once.

She is indeed hard to handle and disruptive in class but she is a victim of modern parents who have little commitment to their marriages.

Their children are just burden to them and their children can feel it.

Bad behaviours often are the expression of a greater inner need that is not met.

I know more

The fact that every kid can easily search the internet to gain all sorts of knowledge.

Teachers are no longer the master of all knowledge. Many of them may know specific area of their interest more than us.

We cannot pretend to know all like masters of all knowledge because it would shatter into pieces when we are unable to uphold and answer all questions.

Teachers in this age are really facilitators of learning and we guide student to explore knowledge on their own in a greater measure.

We must affirm and admit areas that certain students who know more than us. We can even get them to share what they know as a bonus to our lessons.

Instead of getting them to shut their mouths, we can get them to be our partners of learning and teaching.

In conclusion

Our children and students may not be matured but they know what is happening in the adult world.

There are enough reality shows or movies to tell them what they need to know.

Adults are no longer able to cover their actions with lies to gain their trust as they can often uncover those lies within their hearts easily.

They can accumulate lots of anger and bitterness that lead to many discipline issues.

Our children may just be a mirror of the bad choices or decisions that we had made.

We can never turn back time but we can still save our future time if we choose not to leave things as they are.

Our children and students are no longer the gullible ones.

Adults may be the gullible ones who think that they can hide the truth from their children.

Thank you for sharing such sensitive content, @fun2learn. Being an educator is a praiseworthy task (a teacher, I firmly believe) and a commitment that is redoubled when it comes to children.
Indeed, times have changed and so have generacons, as they always have been and as they must be (even if not always necessarily for the better). However, there are immutable things, such as generational gaps that will always exist. A good teacher understands them and takes advantage of them, because a good teacher learns what he teaches and learns from the person he teaches.

This thing you're really saying and teachers and parents shouldn't forget it:

Our children may just be a mirror of the bad choices or decisions that we had made.

We can never turn back time but we can still save our future time if we choose not to leave things as they are.

Our children and students are no longer the gullible ones.

Adults may be the gullible ones who think that they can hide the truth from their children.

I think you are a good teacher.
A hug!
