Duty of parents
The love of parents is unconditional.
Many parents need to balance between work and their duty as parents.
Very often, we feel guilty that we cannot be there when our children have fallen ill.
Even though we may be physically at work but our hearts and minds are somewhere else.
Below is a videoclip about a working mum who always bought toys for her girl whenever she was not able to be with her.
Draw the line
We must learn to draw the line between work and our own family lives.
We can be the best teachers in school but we are not the good parents.
We can be the best parents at home but we are unable to go the extra mile for our students outside school hours.
I agree that there are teachers as well as working parents who can balance both work and family lives well but it is not an easy mission.
When our child is not feeling well, it may just be the time that we need to be with them.
It is our duty to take leave from our work to be with our child.
When our child is graduating from a major milestone, there are also teachers who take leave to witness this significant event.
Our job cannot be with us forever since we would retire sooner or later.
Our impact in our children can last even when we are gone.
We need to draw the line and decide what is more important.
Love
There can be many different types of love but one of the greatest love is love from parents.
Most parents shower their love on their children without expecting anything in return.
Unconditional love is the most genuine love.
When a child is having a fever, his mother may be the one that stays up in the middle of the night to monitor his temperature.
The sleepless nights to look after our children when they are young but they may not see these sacrifices when they grow up.
Many may not feel the love of parents and they avoid their parents due to their nagging and scolding for their misbehaviours.
Many children only realise the depth of their parents’ love when crisis strikes. Their parents are the ones who would stay with them regardless of what happens.
Show your love
Many parents have difficulty showing their love to their children resulting their children not feeling their love.
We can start to take small steps by showing our love through little acts like cooking supper for them when they have to study late.
We can take a short moment to wish them a pleasant sleep as well as telling them that we love them.
Some of us may not have said that we love our children for a long time. It becomes hard to do so when we have no habit of doing so.
If we hide our love within us, our children cannot feel it and may misunderstand us.
Love needs to be expressed through actions.
In conclusion
Many of us have problem showing our love to our children because our parents did not show their love for us when we were young.
We are brought up in families where parents are just concerned about whether we have enough food and our physical needs are taken care of.
With many parents who understand the need of showing their love, more parents are changing the next generation parenting style.
Children may learn from parents how to be parents when they have their own families.
Show your love and your children will know that they can always count on us to be there for them.
