Awareness of behavioural traits
I had recently done a survey that gives information about my degree of strengths in the 4 behavioural traits.
The awareness of behavioural traits not only provide information about ourselves but also raise the awareness of others’ characteristics and strengths so that we can make the necessary adjustment to work more effectively with others especially if you are a manager or senior staff.
This short article will raise your awareness about the 4 cornerstone traits to enable you to have greater effectiveness by knowing yourselves and working with others.
‘Take Charge’ Trait
A person with high dominance can be rather control orientated.
They can be direct and decisive.
They like to take charge with the end result in mind.
They can be very competitive and have strong opinions.
Can be too straight forward to most situation and may also set unrealistic deadlines.
Areas of improvement
Learn to listen to others and avoid the tendency to deliver our opinion too strongly
Learn to distribute our authority to others to empower others
Learn to work as a team
Need to learn how to be tactful and be more empathetic during tough conversations with others
Avoid high control tendency for others
‘People’ Trait
A person who is interactive, motivational and influential.
Someone who likes to react to environment and control-oriented through people.
It is also his desire to please and believe in others.
He/She can be an opportunity seeker.
A person who likes to talk his/her way out of trouble.
Areas of improvement
Need to be more precise and direct to the point due to the tendency to talk too much.
Learn to be realistic and objective
Need to listen more without interrupting others
Need to aim towards concrete goals
‘Patience’ Trait
Someone who gets influenced by the environment.
He/She is an attentive listener as well as patient mentor/coach.
A good persistent and dependable person.
He/She has a methodical approach in the actions to be taken.
He/She will observe the cause and effect before rushing into action.
Able to find strength and comfort in working as a team.
Areas of improvement
Need to be flexible when faced with sudden or unexpected change of pace
Learn to make a stand and be decisive
Be direct and courageous to resolve conflicts that arise
‘Systems’ Trait
Someone who gets influenced by the environment like the earlier ‘Patience’ Trait.
A person who is systematic and procedural.
Someone who is accurate and meticulous.
He/She tends to worry about possible risks and dangers resulting in scrutinising new ideas.
Always double-check and evaluate decisions made repeatedly to ensure everything goes smoothly.
Areas of improvement
Need to learn how to take good calculated risk even if it has not be proven. (Be open-minded)
Have constructive responses so as to avoid the tendency of judgemental comments.
Learn to take mistakes, failures and criticism as a learning process
In conclusion
With these 4 traits, do they lead you to reflect about yourself or people you have to work with?
This short article aims to raise some awareness in you to enable you to work more effective with others and also enable you to work on your own strengths and weaknesses.
