There are so many different theories of teaching and learning.
It can be hard to get an overview of the different things we must note in our classroom teaching.
This short article will share about 10 simple awareness of basics of classroom teaching and learning.
Awareness 1: Classroom management
The need to maintain a good classroom climate and discipline in a positive way that do not require reprimanding regularly that can waste curriculum time.
Good discipline can facilitate the ease of teaching.
Awareness 2: Practice learning strategies as a habit
The need to practice regularly what we learn about active teaching as well as learning strategies so that they become part of our teaching habits for effective teaching.
Awareness 3: Learning Objectives
There is a need to make known to our students about our teaching objectives so that they can have greater awareness of what they are learning and they can also catch the key points faster.
Awareness 4: Formative feedback
Regular feedback to students about their progress so that they can know what are the areas to work on.
Awareness 5: Monitor
Teachers who are too engrossed in teaching often do not move around to monitor and evaluate students’ progress.
Make a point to regularly move around.
Awareness 6: Attention
Constantly have a good helicopter view of all students and keep them on task always.
Awareness 7: Classroom routine
Always be systematic and students will know what to expect and the requirements that need to have during lessons.
Awareness 8: Relationship
Our job may not be simply teaching but we are also mentors to our students.
There is need to build personal relationship and bonding with our students.
Awareness 9: Momentum
Remove and predict all possible gaps of time to ensure every transition of activities can flow well without interruption.
This can keep students on tasks as well as minimise noise.
Awareness 10: Avoid personal issues
Do not take out your mobile phone while students are doing work.
Put our personal matters away during lesson and focus on teaching and developing our lessons effectively.
In conclusion
There can be a lot more that we can list for the things we need to take note in our lessons.
Most of the basics are listed in this short article but we cannot follow these ideas blindly.
We should have awareness and be flexible to adapt according to our own teaching style.
