ENGLISH GRAMMAR: Punctuation (Quotation -marks)
The person who is reading your work must know where the quote starts and ends. When using quotations, it is important to know that once they are opened they have to be closed again.
Quoation-marks
Quotation marks are used with direct quotes, with titles of certain works, to write words as words, and to indicate alternate meaning. When quoting a segment of a sentence, the sentence is not capitalized. When quoting a complete sentence the quoted text is capitalized.

Block quotations are not set off with quotation marks. Periods and commas always go inside the quotation marks in Americal English; dashes, semicolons, colons almost always go outside the quotation marks and exclamation marks sometimes go inside and sometimes stay outside.
Quotation-marks
Quotation-marks [" "] are used to close a quotation: e.g., "I am not sure," said Mr Smith, "whether Maria is right about that." (Here the words of a speaker are quoted directly.)
This "friendship" of yours is more dangerous than enmity. (Here the quotation marks imply: I am quoting you: "Friendship" is your word. I should not use it).
Quotation within a quotation mark

A quotation within a quotation is marked off by means of single quotation marks. [' '], e.g., "The parrot called me 'Pretty Polly'," boasted Polly.
A quotation must be enclosed by quotation marks, and only the words quoted must be enclosed.
