Building confidence: 3 ways to tackle low self-esteem and negativity!

Introduction

People with low self-esteem always feel bad about themselves. They view their life as not worth so much. What is low self-esteem? Look at this simple explanation:

Low self-esteem is characterized by a lack of confidence and feeling badly about oneself. People with low self-esteem often feel unlovable, awkward, or incompetent.

You see from the above definition that people with low self-esteem always feel that they are deficient in one or more areas of life. They feel terrible about their perceived worth and alway think that they could be better with one or more thing added to their life or skill. Well, how can you handle such negativity? Consider this 3 tips.


1. Do not compare yourself with others: While it may good to imitate the good things that others did, its usually helpful to compare yourself with others. You will always find that they are better than you. It will be difficult to see where you are doing well. So do not compare yourself with others to avoid putting yourself under unnecessary stress and pressure. Always try to be better than you were previously.

2. Find good association: A wise proverb says "As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens his friend (Proverbs 27:17)." If your friends are people that always disapprove everything you do, it will be difficult to build confidence. But, if you surround yourself with friends who praise you and acknowledge your fine skills and personality, you will grow in confidence and build your self-esteem. Even if you did not do much, friends with a positive outlook will always rub off on you and help to build you up.

3. Acknowledge your limitations and constantly improve:Granted, like everyone else, you likely have some areas in life you need to improve on. Try to identify these areas and make a good plan to work on improving them. No one is perfect and there is room for improvement. A friend - an honest, caring friend - could hep you identify things you need to change. When you make progress record it and reward yourself. Taking positive steps to become a better person will help you build confidence and self esteem.

Conclusion

Low self-esteem can prevent you from achieveing great things in life. It has even led some to suicide. Before it gets that bad, work on building your confidence. Always go with people that will be a positive influence in your life. Try to improve your skills, knowledge and overall personality. You can build your self-esteem and become more confident!

I do not believe in anything as "building" self-esteem. I do believe in realizing self-value and respecting yourself and integrity. We all have self-esteem which is always dwindled down by surrounding ourselves with the wrong people and wrong places. Yes, it is important for us to have the right people around us to tell us how valued and important we are which can help boost self-esteem. But it is of equal, if not more, important to realize it ourselves and act accordingly.
It takes a lot of self-reflection to realize that we might not be handling ourselves with utmost and deserving respect, but understanding that is the first step and the other steps you have mentioned surely follow.

@focusnow, Fear is natural thing and definitely we cannot keep it separate from us but our confidence levels will going to dominate this fear aspect. And in past i had many panic attacks and I've builded my confidence through mirror effect and by that i mean, while standing before mirror seeing into our own eyes and speaking with a mindset like we are communicating with others and this way step by step we can overcome from anything in life but we need dedication. Stay blessed.

Comparison is the number one thing that brings us down. When I see someone better than me, I say to myself there many more who wish to be like me.

I doubt this will help. People with a really low self-esteem are not good company. They are negative, eat energy and drag you down.
Not raising your kid with self-esteem, encouraging it and kick its ass at times is the worse thing you can do. Especially if it does not have a strong will/character.

Get professional help if you are that low on the ladder.

If not help yourself.

Write down 10 think you like.
Write down 10 things you are good at.
Write down 10 of your skills.
Do 3 nice things for yourself a day.
Kick out friend/family who humilate you.
Stop pleasing others. 💕

I just focus on a few small goals or tasks at a time. Pebble by pebble I build a castle.
