Theorem on External Secant Segments and its application
Hi everyone, let me share to you my knowledge in solving problem involving External Secant Segment of a Circle.
Problem:
Find the length of the unknown external secant segment (X) of the following figure.
To solve the problem, let us recall the following terms:
Secant - a line that intersects a circle at
exactly two points.
- it contains a chord of a circle.
External Secant Segment
- is the part of a secant segment that is outside a circle.
Now let us study and understand the theorem to helps us solve the problem above.
Theorem on External Secant Segment
- If two secant segments are drawn to a circle from an exterior point, then the product of the lengths of one secant segment and its external secant segment is equal to the product of the lengths of the other secant segment and its external secant segment.
Now let us apply the theorem and solve for the length of X.....
Till next time.
