A Parent's Duty
The need to provide for the needs of a family has increased the work hours of parents leaving their kids to the charge of teachers and employed help.
Some parents do not have time to monitor their children's educational performance. They leave their kids' educational needs to the teachers while busy with their jobs.
It is good to provide for the needs of your kids but not at the expense of hardly having personal interactions with them. It is necessary to go through your child's assignments and his or her books to know how the child is faring at school.
You have a part to play in their education. There is need to participate in their homework, asking them questions about how they are coping with school. Knowing their favourite subjects and the ones they find challenging.
Sometimes, I discuss with different parents to know their views about their role in their children's education.
A parent told me how she plays her role in her children's education.
She said: "I wanted my kids to go to the best of schools and have the best education. But, I realised that in order to pay for the expensive school fees, I have to go for jobs with bigger pay.
The distance to such workplace with traffic challenges will increase more hours spend outside the home. Leaving me with lesser hours with my kids.
So, I decided to quit the bigger job, went for something that will allow me spend more time with my kids and be part of their education.
I enjoy going through their homework with them. Preparing them for their general readings, for tests and exams. I encourage them to read for leisure.
Their father checks on their education during the weekends and holidays. And inquires from me every night on how they are doing."
I attend the school's open day. This is a day parents come to the school and check on their kids' performance. It is an avenue for me to ask the teacher questions about how my kid is faring and his or her performance at school.
I admired this parent for playing her role in her children's education. Even going for a lesser job in order to create time for their educational needs. Indeed, parenthood comes with sacrifice.
Parents should be able to balance work and also create time for their children's needs; physically, emotionally and in their education.
Thanks for your time. Your comments will be greatly appreciated on this topic.

I love your post because it is about parenting. I agree with everything you said 100%.
Parents are sacrificing. They work hours and hours on end and most of the time don't get enough sleep just so they could attend to their children's needs, so that their children can receive good education.
But parents still need to be involved with their children in their education. For example, they should make homework time a quality time with their kids. They need to be more interested in what their children are doing at school and even outside of school, if they are into sports or into any other interest.
Thanks for your contribution. Indeed, parenting is not an easy task but balance between home and work is necessary.
Thanks for stopping by.
