#UNIBENSPEAKS — Students react as 5 SUG executives including president are rusticated by school management

UNIBEN students were in shock this morning to find the latest circular going round the school notice boards today. Five SUG executives being The SUG president - Hon. Elvis Ogbidi Osemudiamen AKA Osemu.com, The SUG Secretary General - Hon. Aidenagbon Justus, The SUG PRO - Ehiabhi Goodnews, The SUG Assistant Secretary General - Innocent Momodu Ehiz, & Mr. Benjamin Majrkodunmi Patrick were rusticated today for the roles they played in spearheading the student's protest late last year due to the school's increase in 100 level acceptance fee, fresher and staylite school fees, 100% increase in transfer fee, 200% increase in hostel fee, increase in transport, bread, sachet water & a host of other things.

But the school management claims the protest was intended to disrupt the 47th Founder's day and 43rd convocation ceremony of the university, & hence the Senate approved their rustication.
Many students are of the opinion that without the SUG, the students are left with zero power to speak & exercise their rights when situation warrants. Majority of the students said the punishment was much too harsh and is an overkill.

I managed to interview a Student by name of Gbenga and here is what he had to say

@Epaphrasdaniel - Hello, may I know your name & level?

Gbenga - My name is Gbenga Alex. A 300 level student.

@Epaphrasdaniel - So what's your opinion concerning the recent rustication of the 5 SUG executives?

Gbenga - I do not support the action of the school management because I do not see anything wrong with students protesting for their rights. The SUG was doing her job of securing & upholding the interests of the students she is leader over. I believe the school was wrong to rusticate them. Besides, no property was destroyed, no life lost, infact there wasn't a single record of violence on the side of the students. It was a very peaceful protest. The rustication is quite uncalled for.

@Epaphrasdaniel - What measure do you think the school should have taken instead?

Gbenga - I believe even if the school finds their actions wrong, the most they should have done was to warn them or checkmate their activities. But rustication is simply an overkill.
