Un-helpful Cat Painting Tutorial (Birman Breed)

Today's post is a watercolour lesson for you guys! Hope you find it helpful, maybe (?)

Hi again, Steemians, this is my watercolour tutorial for cats.

THUMBNAIL.jpg

If you're as interested in cats as I am, I'm sure you'd like being able to draw or paint them. How else would you show your love if not through re-creation?
I hope this tutorial will be helpful for everyone, I made it quite simple and easy.

Starting off, always have a reference image for the cat you'd like to paint. It helps because your imagination of something can sometimes be a little off. A picture of what you want to draw can always help connect the dots in your head. This time, I'm using a Birman cat because of its nice brown and white fur and really pretty blue eyes.

(Picture found in Google Images from Mental Floss.)

Damn, those eyes are prettier than mine.

Anyways,
STEP 1.

I always use watercolour paper for it because it makes the painting look way nicer than regular paper. And usually the more expensive, the better. Because how thick the paper is is also counted in the price. Thicker = More expensive.
Don't worry too much about the price though, usually its way better to use the thick paper and you'll end up happier after the painting's done.
For this one, I used a 300gsm paper (that's the thiccness).

STEP 2.

I use light colours first before the strong ones, so that when I see the rough sketch of the body I can fix any mistakes I see on the shape and anatomy.

STEP 3.

You can start painting it with its original darker colours and add that nice blue to the eyes!

STEP 4.

We don't want it to be just a flat blue colour on the eyes, no no! You have to add some darker blue for the depth and leave some white space for the shine in her eyes.

STEP 5.

Add more defining fur strokes on the body. Since its a white cat, use light brown and aim for the shoulders, chest and back end near the tail.

STEP 6.

The BG is completely optional but I like to add it for some extra colour.

And DONE! So, how was it? Easy right? Of course if it doesn't turn out well you gotta try again. Practice, practice and you can get the best results!
Thanks for reading, hope you guys like it and maybe get something from it ??

Such a pretty cat. I wish I knew how to use water colors!

Thanks! Painting gets getting used to but once you know what you're doing its pretty simple ^^

I'm not able to draw or paint them.
I would very much like to, but I'm not a painter - unfortunately.

Amazing paintings - well done to you

Cute cat there haha! He looks so grumpy.

and thanks! Its always good to try. I never liked labelling myself as 'good a this' or 'bad at that'. It feels restricting, you know? That's why if you want to paint, you should do it.

I totally agree with you
Anything that you define it - is limited

Then I'll be waiting for a post from you with your painting on it! Haha !

No chance, I tried several times to draw, it's not going well for me.
My wife tried to teach me (She has a BFA).
Everyone has to be good in his field.
