RE: My Great Grandmother's Spelling Book From 1908
I just love to wax nostalgia like this. Recently I read my grandmother's copy of The Grapes of Wrath (signed and dated by her 1940) and her copy of 20000 Leagues Under the Sea(copyright 1917).
How many people have enjoyed these books? How many times did my grandmother read them? There certainly is more to an old book than the words on the paper...
Somewhere I have an old copy of Shakespeare's Macbeth that belonged to my great grandmother. I can't remember the year but it's a pretty old copy. I also have a complete set of the 1952 The Book of Knowledge (encyclopedia's) that were hers. I remember in high school before the internet I used to use them to write reports. I love finding old writing in the margins. Makes you wonder about the person who wrote the words.
