Strategies to teach students to listen carefully

As teachers we know how difficult it is, for students to pay attention or listen with interest when a classmate speaks.


That is why a very simple rule for these occasions is ** "when one speaks, others listen." ** But it does not always give the result we expect, and therefore some activities so that this norm is a value, that of * * "Know how to listen.”**

We must carry out practical, simple and attractive activities for students, with which it is intended to encourage students to learn to listen as a good "listener" reflects, generates dialogue, reinforces memory and develops the imagination.

For this reason it is necessary to apply teaching strategies that favor the comprehensive training of students, able to pay attention during the course of various activities that are developed in the classroom, which allows you to focus attention and better understand, achieving better performances in all areas of his personal, school, family and social life.

1.-Story "Only three"

One of the students tells a story. Those who listen can only interrupt three times, so three children can ask three questions or notes.

This activity allows you to be alert to interruptions, something unusual.

Throughout the course, it will be evaluated if the interruptions were relevant, if it was important to do them, if, on the contrary, they obstructed the story. Then, a conclusion can be made about the importance of not unnecessarily interrupting others when they speak.

2.-"How is the drawing?"

The group is divided into subgroups, which the teacher believes necessary. Each group is given a different and simple drawing.

Each group, without showing the drawing, tell the other group what the drawing is like and what it is about so that the rest of the group can reproduce it.

After each group has carried out their experience of telling their drawing, they can talk to each other about the need for agreements on points of reference.

3.- “A story without ending"

The students will be divided into several teams, which will create a collective story. Each child tells a part of an invented story. Everyone in their turn must make a contribution to their history, resuming and repeating the previous ones.

We must listen very carefully to repeat and cohere coherently.

Evaluate the coherence of the story and the need for attention and memory to achieve it. Recognize that distraction causes inconsistencies and absences in the story.
