In his works of philosophy and psychology led him to reconstruct the adventure of knowledge from the ontogenesis of Nations and the history of the subject of science. Through a psychology of the development of intelligence:

  • The birth of intelligence in the child 1936;
  • The genesis of the number in the child, 1941;
  • The formation of the symbol in the child 1945

Piaget, analyzed the successive structures of knowledge and extracted the principles of construction oriented towards conceptualization increasingly abstract and general (genetic psychology).

The foundation of knowledge as it was developed above all in Genetic Epistemology (1970), is based on a conception that makes action a phase prior to thought and this process, the result of the progressive internalization of actions in the course of the individual history of each subject.

Motivated by the desire to understand and explain the nature of children's thinking and reasoning, he dedicated more than 55 years of his life to the study of child behavior.

Its main initial influences, from this takes the notions of adaptation by assimilation and accommodation in circularity (circularity can be understood as feedback). Piaget thus undertook his theory and achieves his discoveries having a perspective that is at the same time biological, logical and psychological, meeting in a new epistemology. That is why he speaks of a genetic epistemology, understanding epistemology here not as the science that studies science, but as the investigation of cognitive abilities.

Piaget maintains in his theory that the principles of logic begin to settle before the acquisition of language, generated through the sensory and motor activity of the baby in interaction and interrelation with the environment, especially with the sociocultural environment.

Piaget demonstrates that there are qualitative differences between children's thinking and adult thinking, even more: there are qualitative differences at different times or stages of childhood.

Piaget published more than 50 books and 500 articles as well as 37 volumes in the series of "Etudes d'Epistémologie Génétique" [Studies of Genetic Epistemology].

On September 17 of each year, the "Psychopedagogist's Day" is celebrated in his honor, an event established in a congress of professionals held on that date in 1982 and established in the founding act of the Argentine Federation of Psychopedagogues.
