Activities Break the ice for the first week of school.

In all activities, the first contact is essential, so a single day of dynamics is not enough, it is important to carry out these activities for a week.

1st day: Presentation
Elaborate a list of adjectives in different cards, that will be shown to the students; Example of adjectives:
RESPECTFUL
INTELLIGENT
GENEROUS
CHEERFUL
EDUCATED
HAPPY
SOLIDARY
FRIENDLY
AFFECTIONATE
COLLABORATOR
STUDIOUS
QUIET
SAD
GOOD

  • Students must choose two adjectives that define their character.
  • One by one, they present themselves. They pronounce their name and justify their choice.
  • Meanwhile, a secretary or the teacher himself, writing on the board the selected adjectives and the number of people who chose him, not the name.
  • As I memorize the words and associate them with the names of their peers, I am coming into situation with the information they provide me.

Rules for the development of the activity:

  1. Be attentive to the reading of the Adjectives, they will be read twice.
  2. An order will be made in the presentations (first the name, then the school from which they come and, finally, the justification of the chosen adjectives).
  3. Be silent during the introductions of others.

2 day: My name is important
Once the children have been placed in a circle, the teacher will invite each to think about what they like about themselves. Give examples of personal characteristics and / or abilities: they are cheerful, affectionate, generous, share toys, help their friends, are good for painting, trimming, gymnastics, etc.
The teacher begins the game by saying his name and a characteristic of his person.
For example: "I am Ana, and I am happy". Then he invites everyone to repeat aloud the presentation of the educator: "She is Ana and she is cheerful".
The teacher asks each child to come forward by saying his name and a personal trait or ability:
✔ What is your name? What do you like most about yourself? If someone can not respond, ask the other children to say what they like about him or her.
Close the game, highlighting in the first place the expressions that have come to be presented and the possibility that each one has had to make known the qualities that distinguish them. Explain that personal characteristics and abilities are what make us unique and desirable as people. In addition, these characteristics allow us to improve with our friends.

3rd day: Puzzles
Make a puzzle.

  • Cut the circles of cardboard with a diameter of 50 cm. Approximately, using cards of different colors for each circle.
  • The circle is divided into pieces according to the number of people you want in each group.
  • Each person is given a piece of the puzzle and explained to the group that should complement it by joining the pieces that have the same color.
  • When they do, they stay in groups and share their hobby their place of origin and their favorite sport.
  • When everyone has spoken, write in the puzzle all their answers, along with the names of all members.
  • In conclusion they meet in plenary and share what they have written in the puzzle.
  • Place the puzzles on a mural to establish the meeting place.

4th day: I am good to see how good you are

  1. Groups of children are formed.

  2. Each child will express in the form of ** mime ** the best he knows how to do, for example:
    Juan is good (in basketball.)
    Sara: I'm fine (in math.)
    Peter: and I am (well painting.)

  3. Children respecting the peers' turn, will guess what each pair DOs BEST, for this they have a minute, if they do not discover that it happens to represent the child of the following group.

FOR THE EDUCATOR: It is up to you to be very attentive and agile, to take the exact time for each child and to have discussions of no more than 1 minute. It can be fun to make a kind of presentation of what is going to happen, that you are the one that animates them, motivates them, animates them, etc.

5th day: My goals
The objective of this activity is to reflect on what they want to achieve during the year, how they will achieve it and with the help of who. At the end of the year, they will make an evaluation about it.
Preparation of the activity:
Make a card like the following one and photocopy it as many times as the students have in your room:
Development of the activity

  1. Ask them what they expect from this school year, what their goals are, what they plan to do to achieve them, what help they have, and so on.
  2. Give them the card and ask them to respond individually. Then fold it and store it in an envelope on which to write your name.
  3. Keep the letters in a safe place and return them at the end of the year.
  4. Discuss with them if they achieved their goals, what they did to achieve them, who helped them and if they could not achieve them, what problem did they have?
