Agricultural and Fishery Systems Aquaponics Model

in #steemiteducation7 years ago (edited)

Aquaponics is a system used to grow your plants and fish together. The aquaponic system is not the same as hydroponics. The hydroponics system refers to a growing system of plants using water enriched with 'chemical' nutrients. While plants with the aquaponics system, nutrients obtained from natural organic fish waste (no chemicals). The farming and fishery system of this model was first created and implemented by Faris in Egypt.

Fish is an important component in an aquaponic system. Fish Cultivated often given artificial feed and plankton which grown in zooplankton or phytoplankton systems. Then the fish food will be metabolized by the body of the fish itself. The process of food metabolism of this fish will have an impact on the growth of fish.

The aquaponic system is a recirculation or water reuse system previously used in the maintenance of fish and plants grown above as a filter or water filter. This plant will use residual materials produced by fish as nutrients or nutrients needed so that the use of nutrients in this medium is very minimal and the plant does not require chemical fertilizers anymore. Water that has been mixed with dirt is not good for the growth of fish because the water of the poop fish contains toxins so that the water of the fish waste have flowed on the plant. Although it contains toxic but has benefits that can be used to support its growth.

Ideally, the plants clean the dirty water from fish waste such as ammonia, on the contrary fish also fertilize the plants. Feeding the fish has also fed the plants at the same time. This system can be categorized as fisheries and also agriculture (2 in 1).

It's very simple, first, the fishes in the system will produce their organic waste. Second, These waste will be converted to nitrates by the bacteria that exists naturally within the system, and third, the plants will absorb the nitrates as nutrients, and cleaning the water in the process. Then, the water has been cleaned will be returned to the fish tank to keep the fishes healthy and to be ready to get fertilized by the fish waste again.

The explanation in specific and detail is as follows:

From the process of fish metabolism, organic waste (feces and urine) is converted. Feces and urine are ammonia (NH4+) and it's harmful and can poison fish in the system. Organic waste is utilized by bacterial decomposers that live on the walls aquaculture, planting media, and filter media as food. The decomposition process by heterotrophic bacteria produces Nitrate (NO3 +) which is often called macronutrient. Nitrate is used by plants for its growth. Plants will donate Oxygen (O2) and Water (H2O) filtered cleanly to living organisms, whether fish or bacterial decomposers. This process will be continuously sustainable in the system.

Conclusion:

Based on the description above, the authors can conclude, that the system is a method of farming and fisheries are done together at the same time. This aquaponic system can be regarded as a highly efficient system and method for growing crops, using water, space and utilizing fish waste in culture tanks.
The agricultural system more efficient than conventional farming methods.

Ideally, the aquaponic system can contribute food to humans, a protein derived from the cultivation of fish and vitamins derived from the cultivation of plants. Plants and fish in an aquaponic system, both of which are organic, because the nutrients needed are only taken from the culture waste, does not require the use of chemical fertilizers or hormones and antibiotics.
