The Story of Fishermen's Anxiety

in #steemiteducation7 years ago (edited)

Today, I want to tell you a simple story that you can share with your child to teach them the importance of taking care of nature. It is the duty of human beings to take care of the Earth and nature. My story tells the tale of a grandfather who believes in the importance of living in harmony with nature because the oceans and forests are ours to look after.

No human civilization will last forever. Greek, Roman, Persian, Umayyad, Abbasid, Andalusian, and Ottoman civilizations all followed the same cycle of nature. They were born. They grew larger and larger into great empires. Over time, they declined and died. Civilizations take turns. After one civilization dies, a new one is born and follows the same cycle.

Even today, modern civilization has now reached its heyday. In modern times what has man not achieved? Buildings so tall they touch the sky, overpasses, traveling with speed and sound, and the internet that permeates space and time….These are all achievements of modern man. Today’s society is just as grand as when the Romans built their cities and when Alhambra palace was built in Andalusia. When a society reaches its peak, this is the beginning of a societies collapse when the balance of nature is unstable and unable to take care of it.

Modern civilization has reached its peak, yet man still devotes himself to greed. Man continues to destroy nature further and further? The decay has already begun. Once the current civilization falls, a new civilization will replace it. One world dies while another is being born.

The Story of Fishermen's Anxiety

Once upon a time, an old fisherman pulled over under a coconut tree to hide from the sun. It was a time of change. The winds were shifting with the change of seasons. The fisherman was named Lapoh and he was experiencing a terrible dilemma. He was fearful and upset about the amount of damage to the natural world inflicted by his country and the recklessness of man.

He stared blankly at the sky above the Strait of Malacca. He saw the ripples of the water and it’s wrinkles made him think of a grandfather and how humans age and change. He thought about how monsoon season was coming and how the change of seasons was like the aging of humans.

To himself Lapoh put his thoughts into poetry and recited the dilemma of old fishermen

With nature we are harmonious
The sea and the lush forest and its contents
It is ours, which God entrusted to protect
We have to agree that we keep taking care of him
Because with our natural resources must be cautious
The jungle of life is so beautiful and wise,
Here we embrace together,
And the oceans and forests are an emblem of friendship

Do not destroy us
Out of greed or instincts,
Because of need and preservation,
Both are so meaningful,
Do not be greedy by the urge of lust,
Because of narrow-mindedness in trying to survive

Balance can still be handled,
But if the sea and coral reefs are damaged,
Deadly waste is disposed of,
And looting fish blindly, surely we will be miserable.

The mountain is bare
The forest is destroyed from the fire
Large poho trees that are harvested are replaced with oil palm,
All kinds of animals lose their place,
They will surely die off
Chaos will happen everywhere
The peaceful comfort will disappear.

But...
There must be a way to deal with changes,
To always be firm,
Following God's will
Human beings must be in harmony with nature

At sunset
A charming moon comes up
And a beautiful star
The light is beautiful shining upon the world
But the beautiful rays were created by someone,
Someone with a heart and a smile tied them together
One element with another element,
Someone who carries a sincere love,
Someone who gives pure love,
Will human beings appreciate the meaning of gratitude,
All forms of his creation?
Is it a dream?
Humans do not want to tie themselves to balance

What is the hope of the full moon?
Never go too high
Nature and animals just want simple love
We just want to keep up
This togetherness forever

We are all born into this world,
We are tasked to take care of this world
But do not behave as good as we should
We promise to strive for togetherness,
But some surrender to greed
Our sense of belonging is bound to nature.

We remember the pledge of our deal
But why do we break it?
Harmonious with nature and animals
Not saying anything,
Not saying sorry..
Is a simple word
It is a relief to the soul
Sorry..
Five simple letters
But they widen the heart
It shines on our faces
Providing opportunity
for us to love nature
For us to head back into a beautiful future.

Conclusion

You may be familiar with this saying: “little by little, into the hill."

This is a simple proverb. It implies something more valuable than a pocket full of money. It means if we are able to accumulate goodness in each of our small actions, we will find greatness in our souls. By working hard to protect nature through small deeds, over time we will benefit greatly by having a world that can continue to take care of us.
