Sick friends
The preschool I work at is having a bad cold going around. Yes I know we are giving it to each other. It just can't be helped.
As a teacher there is only so much I can do for my sick little friends.
I can teach them to cough in their elbow,drink plenty of water,keep a eye on their temperature to see if they are running a fever. Write on their daily sheets and tell their parents. We are not allowed to give medicine unless it is prescribed by a Doctor. The Director calls the parents when they have a temperature of 101 or over. Sometimes the parents will come get the child, sometimes they don't.
But sometimes our hands are tied and we can't do anything.
Today I had 2 friends sick and I felt terrible for them. The parents never told anyone they weren't feeling good. One little boy had a unconrollable cough all day long and all I could do was keep having him drink water.
The second little boy had a migraine and cried and wanted to sleep all day. His mother did come get him early which was good. As a person who gets migraines I felt bad for him. He couldn't eat and only wanted water and to sleep and cry. So as teacher I gave him water and let him sleep all day. I felt it was in his best interest to let him sleep and our class went on while he slept. I felt sleep was better than making him suffer more than he already was.
I totally agree there is a sick room in every school and that is why they are there. You did the perfect thing.

I would have let him sleep too. Poor little guy. I would have to question the parents' judgement when they send obviously sick children to school. It is unfair to the child, the teachers that need to care for them and for the other children who might become ill later. Either my husband or I would stay home when the kids were sick. That's what parents do.
Some of our children single parent families. But someone else could of watch the child.
