The direct experiences are carried out with the intention that children acquire knowledge of the environment and the social space that surrounds them.

Children's contact with reality develops cognitive, motor, inquiry, attention, observation, expressive, logistical and socializing abilities that are fundamental in their development and growth.

These experiences have as a central point the selection of significant fragments of everyday reality, to transform them into surprising experiences.

Direct experience in the supermarket.

Its function is that children have fun and learn about the storage spaces for merchandise, its sale, the care of items and the products offered at the supermarket.

Direct experience is based on children learning the different jobs they perform in the supermarket; the reception, the storage, the location of the products, the sale and the importance of keeping the food in good conditions, learning to make purchases and differentiating the identification logos of a store.

Objectives of direct experience.

  • That the children know some characteristics of the food sales business.
  • Make children know the jobs that are done in the supermarket, and in this way learn that through this is that it works effectively.
  • That the children understand the function of a business that sells food.

Function that the educator must exercise for direct experience in the supermarket.

  • The educator is obliged to organize days before the departure, a logistics, in which he must make an invitation to the representatives, so that they can experiment with the children.

  • A series of steps must be created and followed, so that the children can learn and enjoy the experience.

  • The educator will ask the children to dictate a series of articles, to make the planned purchase in the supermarket.

When in the supermarket, the teacher will ask the children to look for the carts to make the planned purchase and in this way they can interact directly with reality.

Activities to be done by children for direct experience.

The children in the company of the representatives, will be distributed in three groups:

  • They should look for the items in the shopping list, and these will be distributed by each group, having the obligation to fulfill the order.
  • Children should take a walk through the aisles of the supermarket to see the different sectors.
  • Duly observe the different ways of exposing the products in: refrigerators, shelves, packaged and unpackaged foods.
  • Children should observe what people do in the supermarket, such as repositories, maintenance personnel, vendors, cashiers and security guards.
  • They should always be attentive to how the different products are stored.
  • Search the logos of the place throughout the supermarket, and together with the representative will keep a written record of the search results in general.

Suggestions: If the visit is made in the morning hours, it will be interesting for children to observe the arrival of the products, the entrance of trucks, their unloading, and storage.

Activities to do in the classes after the visit to the supermarket.

When the children have returned to school, it is pertinent to ask questions about the activity, in this way we will know if it has been useful for them and if they have learned something.

What is the function of a supermarket?
What foods are in the supermarkets?
What are the foods that are refrigerated?
Why should the products be organized?
Why is it necessary to refrigerate food?
What are the shopping lists for?

To have fun in the classroom, you can create a play space that fulfills the functions of a supermarket. With this activity, the educator will find out if the children have learned the meaning of the organization, the good distribution and the function that a shopping list has as a record, for the preparation of a future task.

Have really learnt a lot with this series 😀😁

Hi, I'm glad that the is to your liking. And if we put it into practice equally with children of family is a good experience for learning.

Ahhh, this is amazing, @cindycam! I had a visit to the mall with my students to observe different types of advertising too!

That is a good idea too, to learn to relate to the enterno.

friend @cindy very good blog these activities stimulate a lot to the initiatives of children so that in the future they feel safe of what they are doing is very good that they are doing this type of activities of direct experiences to encourage them greetings

Undoubtedly, stimulate for an effective development. It is encouraging and helps children in their formative process.
