The Man and the Lion - Aesop's Fables

I present the Fable of the Man and the Lion

Once upon a time, a man was walking through the forest. He met a friendly lion who was headed in the same direction, and the two decided to travel together.

The odd companions talked about many things on the road, but after some time the conversation took a competitive turn.

Both the man and the lion believed their kind to be superior, in both mind and strength. "We use tools and weapons to make our lives better," said the man, "so humans are clearly the smartest and strongest creatures."

"Nonsense", replied the lion. "I can bound twenty feet in a second; my claws and teeth are feared across the world."

The argument went on in this manner for some time, until the companions came across an overgrown statue. The statue was the likeness of Heracles wrestling the Nemean Lion. They both silently surveyed the statue for a long moment.

"It's settled then," said the man. "You see? The king of beasts is completely dominated by the strength of men."

After a pause, the lion simply retorted, "A man created that statue. Had it been crafted by a lion, I imagine it would be telling a different story."

The winners will always be the ones to tell the story. Point of view is everything. Competition is natural, but we must realize that we're seeing the world through the lens of our own kind. Remember... the man and the lion may argue about who is best, but their actions speak louder than their words. Thanks for reading!
