Let's Learn About The Energy Sources We Use

Hi guys, I was busy last week so I couldn't post anything and the thing which make me tremble is not the cold but the exams :P They are starting from a month!!! :O  So i'll share with you a part of our science lesson, energy sources.

We use energy sources in our day to day activities. Nowadays, we can't do our necessary things without energy sources. So let's see what the energy resources we use.The energy sources that we use can be divided in to two categories.

  • Primary energy resources
  • Secondary energy resources

The energy sources that exist naturally can be named as Primary energy resources. The energy sources which are made using the primary energy sources are named as Secondary energy resources.

Primary energy resources.

Crude oil

                                                                      Source

This is a non renewable energy source which is also known as Liquid petroleum. The ingredients should be filtered out by fractional distillation. It is known as Purification of crude oil.The ingredients are, LP gas, kerosene oil, petrol, diesel and furnance. They contain Hydro-carbons which contain hydrogen and oxygen which are highly inflammable. The main countries which produce mineral oil are,   Middle east

                                                                                                                                                        America

                                                                                                                                                        Russia

                                                                                                                                                       Venezuela

Coal

Source

This is also a non renewable energy source which was used to run the trains. Today it is used as a fuel in power houses. In a power house, coal is burnt and super heated steam is produced and the super-heated steam rotates a turbine which produces electricity. There are a lot of coal deposits in countries such as United Kingdom, China and Australia.

Natural gas

The gas deposits which occur naturally from the earth is called as Natural gas. This is also a non-renewable energy source. Methane is the main content. They are used in house-hold activities, in vehicles and also in industries. There are large gas deposits in America, Alaska and Middle-east countries.

Solar energy

Source

This is a renewable energy source which can be used by the whole world easily. Solar energy is produced in a Nuclear fusion which takes place in the sun. In a nuclear fusion, Hydrogen atoms fuse into Helium atoms.

Wind energy

Source

This is a renewable, environmental friendly energy  source. When using this as an energy source, a turbine is forced to rotate and the energy is transferred to the machines.

Potential energy of water

Source

Water stored at a higher place has Potential energy. So they are allowed to flow down and electric turbines are rotated using the kinetic energy of the flowing water.

It's possible to produce more electricity by locating more turbines. Electricity can also be produced in rivers by placing turbines with a large diameter.

Secondary energy sources.

Super heated steam

When the primary energy sources such as crude oil or coal is heated, water is boiled at high temperature. The steam generated is called as Super heated steam. So Super-heated steam can be termed as steam at high pressure and high temperature.

Heat

Heat generated by burning fuel.

Electricity

Electricity generated by any of the above stated primary energy sources.

Energy crisis.

What is energy crisis???

Energy crisis is the lack of energy sufficient to meet the demand. Day by day, energy is getting depleted while the demand and the usage increases. So in the near future, we'll have to face an energy crisis. It takes 350 million years for the formation of fossil fuels. So really soon we have to find a solution for this energy crisis.

Alternative energy sources

There are so many alternative energy sources which we can use as solutions for the energy crisis. Some of them are,

  • Solar energy
  • Wind enery
  • Oceanic wave energy
  • Tidal energy
  • Geo-thermal energy
  • Fuel cells
  • Alchohol
  • Bio-gas
  • Bio-mass
  • Hydrogen gas
  • Bio-diesel

So let's use energy carefully

Good article. Thanks for posting.
One you did not mention, which I think is the best solution, is Solar-Hydro.

ie use solar to pump sea water to an elevation during the day eg into a dam. then let the water flow back out to sea as power is needed.
The solar power is provided by community roof tops.
Free elec to those that contribute roof area.

Thanks for informing. I didn't knew that. And also thanks for stopping by

Solar-hydro is not mentioned a lot as it basically bypasses the elec generation companies. And they don't like that!
Imagine solar panels & batteries on each house.....all interconnected to share as a community..... the elec companies don't like that either.

Ahh Thanks for the information.
