Electrons lie in certain orbitals. Like the Bohr Postulates.
Electrons require a certain threshold energy in order to move the path. Threshold energy is the minimum energy required for electrons to rise to a higher orbital. It is not continuum, but discrete, meaning quantified. These quantized energy packs in the form of radiation or wave are called energy quanta. According to Max Planck, the magnitude of the energy is h f with h is the planck constant of magnitude 6.63 x 10 ^ {- 34} joule seconds.

Electrons can only have energy in this split quanta multiples. Not only on electrons but also photons and all the tiny particles at the subatomic level. In 1900, Max Planck introduced the idea that energy is irradiated and absorbed in discrete "quanta" (or energy packets). This idea is specifically used to describe the distribution of the radiation intensity emitted by a black object.

Einstein proposed further on this, he argued, not only the light emitted according to a quantum at a particular moment but also propagating according to individual quanta. This hypothesis explains the photoelectric effect, which is the electrons radiated when the light frequency is high enough, occurs in visible and ultraviolet light areas.

The hypotheses of Max Planck and Einstein or from both, produce an empirical formula of the photoelectric effect:

hV = The energy content of each of the coming light quantities

hVo = The minimum energy required to release an electron from the irradiated metal surface
