Learning how to make butter

When Luan woke up he felt very happy, and for a few seconds he did not know why. He then suddenly remembered that his grandparents are visiting, He was really hoping his grandpa was up to fishing, as he also knew he would hear wonderful stories from a very long time ago.

He walked into the kitchen for breakfast and they were all sitting their laughing. You are a late sleeper my dear Luan, I have been waiting for you to go and fish. 

Luan laughed and said, you think I am a late sleeper, I think you get up very early. Mother wanted to spoil you by giving you breakfast in bed and here you are all ready to go fishing he laughed. 

The older you get the earlier you wake up sweetheart that is just the way nature let things happen. Remember we do not work anymore and do not have much to do, which is why I am so looking forward to go fishing with you. Your father left me his fishing rod and said you had your own, quickly eat your breakfast so we can get going. 

Luan ate, drank his orange juice and said mother always pack a wonderful basket for me to take with, she must have packed for two today. Then the two of them went off with their fishing rods, bait in a bag and lots of food in the basket. Luan where shall we fish, I believe you know the water better than I do.

Actually grandpa anywhere there are lots of fish, as we throw them back just so we can get the feeling of catching one. We never kill them and they just become more.

That is such a wonderful idea as having something on a rod is one of the most wonderful feeling a man can have. They got everything ready and started fishing. While they were fishing his grandfather told him when they were young boys money was very scarce and their mother made the most fantastic fish you could hope for.

How did she do that as we just buy fish and chips in the shop? We had to clean them for her and when we took them she fried them in butter, from the milk that we had gotten from the cows that morning. 

Butter from milk, how do they do that? Well you put the cream from the top of the milk into a butter turner with a little salt and then start turning. In a while the cream become thick and turn into butter. This is what she used to feed us, but it was wonderful.

We were always happy to get fish and bread that she also made herself.

Then suddenly Luan had a bite, he knew because his rod was very bent. His grandfather was like a child saying, catch him Luan I want to see him. Luan really struggled as he was really very big. He struggled and grandfather was jumping around with pleasure. 

I cannot wait to see it his grandfather laughed and after a long effort Luan got it out of the water just so tired he could hardly breathe.

 His grandfather said what a beauty by dear. He is beautiful. Luan took the hook of slowly and patiently and said his grandfather can put it back.

After this terrible effort you must be hungry, he said let us see what your mother packed for us. They sat next to the river and ate everything inside their basket and his grandfather told him lots of things about the olden days. They sat there talking for hours until it was getting dark and Luan said we must go mother does not like me coming when the sun goes down.

They packed up and while walking home Luan said he is so pleased about the baby that is on its way. He just wants the time to pass, but he must still help his father to make a lovely baby room. 

When they got home Luan told his mother how they did not put the fish back in the water in grandfather’s time and how grandmother use to make butter. You did learn a lot today, and it seems as if you two cannot be hungry as there is nothing left in the basket. 

Oh the fresh air really made us hungry so don’t worry we will definitely eat your meal. She and grandma made lovely pies and salad, and lots of cookies. 

When farther came he had a beer with grandpa until they called them for dinner.

They had a wonderful meal, later all the grownups had tea and biscuits. Luan had his with milk then went to bed, he was missing the monkey and he was so glad that they had found his mother as he knew no child wanted to be without his mother. 

Everyone came to say good night to him before he slept. It had been a wonderful day with all of them. Thank you for reading my story, will see you tomorrow and may you all have a wonderful Sunday.
