FIRST DAY BACK IN THE FOREST.

Luan woke up the next morning; he did not think it would be so nice to be home. Then he remembered his grandmother always saying there is no place like home. She even had a picture up in her passage saying these words.

She also showed him a video of the “Wizard of Oz” and Dorothy who was playing in the movie kept saying “There is no place like home. He loved the movie and remembered all about it thinking back about it now.

He suddenly realised what she meant. 

It was just nice being back in his own bed and bedroom, and he knew he could go get breakfast from his mother and then leave with his basket that she always packed full of goodies for him when he goes to the forest behind the house.

He jumped out of bed, and looked through his window very happy to see all he had left behind, going on holiday. He was thinking this does sound as if he did not enjoy his holiday, but he really did. When he got to the kitchen his mother said, it is nice to be back home is it not son. 

Yes mother I was thinking the same but did not want to say anything as I thought you would feel hurt and think I did not enjoy the holiday. 

Dad is already at work, shame he did not even have one day to rest. 

Well it is only a few days then it is back to school so enjoy this little time you have left.

He ate his breakfast, grabbed his hat and his binoculars. 

He took the basket his mother had made him and said.

Have a good day mother, you have a lot to do I think. Not that much love as we had everything washed and cleaned before we came back. But I do have some things to do. Enjoy your day, and remember to be home before it gets dark. 

Luan ran to the forest and could not wait to see all his animal friends. He decided to go and sit near to the stream where they all drink water, as he knew that is where he would see most of them.

The first thing he did when he was settled, was to see if the monkeys were still there or maybe they had moved on. To his surprise he could still see them and it looked as if they were going to settle there in the forest.

Then he thought this would be so nice to have monkeys in the forest to watch as he knew how funny they were. While he was sitting there he heard something and it sounded like frogs, he could not believe his eyes as there were three frogs sitting and it really looked as if they were laughing at him.

There was another one watching them not far away but he did not look impressed.    I wonder what his problem is Luan was thinking.

Then he thought this must be the father watching over his children just like other parents do.

Then he saw some deer coming nearer they must be thirsty, but they knew him and they were not scared at all.

He sat there and saw so many more animals and this made him so happy that he really felt at home.

He saw an owl and remembered seeing it at the bird sanctuary as well, he was wondering how many others he would find.

Then this most beautiful swan came past and he took photo's of it and he was wondering it is summer if there would be babies somewhere, then to his surprise they came off her back and swam with her.

After taking these photo's he just wanted to go and show his mother everything and decided to go home.

It was getting a bit late and he left, when he got nearer to the house he could not believe his eyes.

All his friends were at the house and running and playing.  They shouted they were so glad he was home.

Your father got your teacher to give him all the phone numbers of your friends, and our parents dropped us a little while ago to have a braai with you.

Your father did not really work today, they just wanted your first day back home to be nice.

We are all  so happy, because we saw all the pictures you took.

Your mother had put them in an album today for you to be able to show us.

She made us some salads and your dad and some of our dads are  at the back with the braai for us.

It is so nice to have you back from holiday, it seems you had a wonderful holiday.

Oh I really did, and even today I took some beautiful pictures in the forest.
