Handling the unforseen

IMG_20171109_151158.jpg

One of the pupils in my class was sick and could not take the examination with the others. Its so frustrating, not just because i have to take the exams again for him when he is strong but to the extent that a part of me flows with so much compassion for him during this time. He was diagnosed of malaria fever and typhoid. Now i think i understand how that feels because i have been there. More than twice in my childhood days i had been brought down with the chronic typhoid.
Coming from west africa (Nigeria to be precise) it is easy to be sick with typhoid because of the quality of the water we drink....you know the rest of the story. I was very close to death then as my body shrank to almost skeleton because of vomiting. I knew i was close to death the first time i had it, even the second time. So having a child in my class that is sick should so much touch me because i know what it feels like, worst of all when it was time for exams - i could only imagine how hard it was for him.
What to do?, he couldn't take the examinations because he was sick, he is intelligent, so he must have read. He didn't factor sickness into his agenda, but he was forced to handle the unforseen because of circumstances. Now the boy is healthy, but his colleagues have finished their exams. He now has to read alone, revise alone, take the exams alone while watching his friends playing around - how frustrating.

As his teacher i have to take the pain of helping him out, so he wouldn't feel down. I have revise with him, speak to him, and keep his company so he can do up to expectation in his exams.
What do i have to bring out from this? You will not always have things flowing in the direction of your plan. So don't be prepared for the unforseen - you may get so worried and weighed down. But make a decision before the unforseen that you WILL NOT STAY DOWN. The unforseen may grab you at anytime but it takes your decision to STOP Groppling and make a quick alternative plan like my sick pupil. His alternative plan is to re-read, overcome the thought of doing the exams alone, and focus - and he is doing well at it (i tell you).
As a friend or family around someone facing the unforseen, your attitude around them matters a lot. I have losed a relationship because of this - i was afraid i will burden the person involved the more by sympathising, so i literally kept mute (that was bad of me), not knowing that my silence hurt more. Stop being afraid of hurting the hurt with your words, just do your best, your being around them may be all they need to make it through the unforseen. Just be the best and stop being afraid around them.
Arigato gozimasu (Thank you very much).
