We can save Earth if we all do something small - Facts on recycling for kids.

You know that humans can destroy a lot of Earth and you also know that it is important that we protect nature, because we can not survive without it.  Nature will easily survive without us.

But how can we make a change?  You do not need to be big and strong, you do not have to do big things, the smallest little thing like not littering or wasting water or electricity can help.

If everybody does their part, we can surely protect Earth.  Lets learn a bit more about recycling.

Recycling is when products are used more than once for the same or other purposes, which help in reducing the energy used to produce new ones and also lessens pollution.

Recycling is part of the waste disposal hierarchy - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. 

Many products can be recycled like paper, glass, plastic and even electronics.

Recycling is not a new concept and people has been doing it for thousands of years where they would re-use the different products, the difference is just that is is becoming more and more important to do it, since humans are causing so much damage to Earth.

Everybody can do their little part.  You do not have to go 'dumpster dive' to find things to recycle, but you can make sure the bottles and papers that you have used is been taken to a recycling plant or given to people that collects it, instead of just throwing it out with the other trash.

There are different methods of waste collection. These include drop off centers (where waste materials are dropped off at a specified location), buy back centers (where certain materials are exchanged for money), and curbside collection (where recycling vehicles are used to pick up waste material intended for recycling along residential streets). 

Paper is much easier to recycle than plastic and the plastic is mostly not made into the same product that it was before.   The plastics are given numbers and the same numbers means it is the same type of plastic and will be recycled together.

Many products that are recycled, will save energy.  It takes much less energy to recycle than to produce a new product.  Aluminium recycling only takes 5% of the energy is needs to manufacture a new product.

Glass will keep its colour even after it has been recycled, so in many cases the same colours will be recycled together.  315 kg less Carbon dioxide will be put into the air for every tonne of glass recycled.
