It is good to play and have fun, but but we have to be careful, sometimes it happens that you or your friend gets hurt.
You can get a cut or nose bleed or even burn yourself.
It is good to know what you can do if something like this happens.
How do you stop cuts from bleeding?
- Always put on gloves when you need to help somebody who is bleeding.
- Use a cloth and press hard to stop the blood from coming out.
- Gently wash the sore with water and soap - it may sting a little but it is necessary to do it to make sure you clean the wound and kill any germs.
- Dry the sore with a clean cloth and cover it with another clean cloth,
- Keep pressing down hard till the bleeding have stopped.
Answer the following questions:
- Why do you think it is important to wear gloves when you are helping somebody who is bleeding?
- Why do you need to use a clean cloth?
- How will it help if you keep on pressing down hard on the cut?
What do we do if you get a minor (small) burn?
- Put the burned part in cold water, or pour cold water over it for 10 minutes.
- Hold a clean dry cloth over the burn.
- You can get special bandages or ointments from the chemist to put on the burn.
What do I do if my nose is bleeding?
- Do not lean back because the blood can run into your sinuses or throat and you can choke.
- Spit out any blood collecting in your throat.
- Pinch the nose with your fingers.
- Sit still until the bleeding stops.
- You can also apply ice or a cold cloth to the nose or the back of your neck.
Say if the following sentences are true or false and say why you say that, or correct the sentence.
- Press softly on a bleeding dog bite.
- Wipe your blood and your friend's blood with the same cloth.
- You must wash your hands often but you do not have to use soap.
- You have to wear gloves when you touch your sister's blood.
- You can throw the cloth with blood on it in the wastepaper basket.
- If your foot is burnt, you must put it in warm water.
- Squeeze your nose close when it is bleeding.
