Lets talk about adverts and make our own - English for Gr 4

If you watch TV or listen to the radio or read a magazine, you will see and hear certain advertisements.  The function of advertisements is to inform people about certain product and convince them to buy certain things.

Have you ever sat at home, then you see and advert of a chocolate or burger and suddenly you are in the mood for one?  That is because of a successful advert.

Have a look at the following adverts on different food.  For each of the following adverts, you must answer these questions

1. What product is advertised?
2. Would you buy this product and give at least 3 reasons why or why not.
3. Who do you think will choose these products (who is the target audience)?
4. Which advert is your favorite and why?

Create your own advert

You are going to decide on a product that you would like to market.  It can be a product that already exist or you can make up your own,

Once you have decided on a product, you are going to decide who is this product aimed at (age group or gender etc that will buy it)

You must also decide what message you want to sent and which words you will want to use to attract attention.

You can draw the advert or use your computer - it can be an advert that will be in a magazine or one that can go on TV or you can even record one for the radio. (add a song if you want to).

Use your imagination and make it interesting and nice to look at or listen to.

After you are done with your advertisement, please answer these questions

1. Why did you choose this specific product?
2. Why do you think the people will respond to your advert?
3. Who is your target market?
4. How much will your product cost?
5. What did you enjoy most about making your own advert?

Have a look for interest sake at how they manipulate food to look good on advertisements

Look at the following advert and write a paragraph or two about the following

1. Does this advert attract attention?  Why or why not?
2. What do you like or dislike about it?
3. How would you change it if you could.
4. Say in short what the advert is about
