Knowledge about the oceans
As a student of maritime, i have learnt somethings about the oceans,most are fascinating,others are new.
They include :
1.The ocean supplies us oxygen
The oceans we see are responsible for supplying us with oxygen,70 percent of the oxygen supply in the atmosphere is from the oceans; the marine plants(phytoplankton, kelp and algae plankton) release it as a byproduct of photosynthesis. One type of phytoplankton is prochlorococcus; it releases countless tons of oxygen into atmosphere

- There are untouchable golds in the oceans.
In the oceans 20million tons of Gold is found to exist, but you cannot be able to collect much because it is o diluted that it is measured in parts per trillion and one littler of seawater might give you a 13billionth of gram.
- Fish eat plastics
It was estimated that fish in the northern pacific swallows between 12000 and 24,000 tons every year. Its inevitable with over 7million tons of plastic winding up in the oceans each year, thats a lot of plastic that winds up as part of an unwanted addiction to a fish's diet. Thus when plastic is mixed with salt water and it begins to disintegrate, it releases an odour which is similar to kril; the enticing smell set of foraging and feeding behaviour in fish, makes them to eat the debris, believing it is food.
- Oceans can be made drinkable
Drinking salt water is very dangerous and deadly,but there is a process called desalination (removal of salt from seawater) that salt is being removed, leaving pure water.

5.The ocean produces sound
Fishes produce sounds, in the ocean in three ways;
(a) Drumming-using muscles that are located on or near their swim bladder
(b) Stridulation-striking or rubbing together skeletal components.
(c) Hydrodynamic-quickly changing speed and direction while swimming.
☆Swim bladder
The swim bladder is a large chamber of air located in the abdominal cavity in most bony fishes. Drumming of swim bladder with the sonic muscle is one of the best-known sounds produce by the fishes. Fishes such as druma and croakers (family sciaenidae) have sonic muscles attached to or near to their swim bladder. These muscles, the faster contracting muscles known in vertebrate cause the swim bladder to contract and expand at a rapid rate, thus creating drumming sounds. Contraction of the sonic muscles produces a sound similar to a foghorn.
Some marine catfishes posses a modified swim bladder mechanism called the "springfederapparat" or "elastic spring apparatus. The swim bladder is used mainly for regulation buoyancy.
☆Stridulation
These often occurs during feeding when jaw teeth or pharyngeal teeth are gnashed together. It may be used to produce sound as a fight response or territorial display. This type of sound may be modified or amplified by the swim bladder. Note that, stridulatory sounds are produced when hard skeletal partd or teeth are rubbed together like the methods used by crickets to makw sounds.
Sea horse and marine catfish are examples of fish species that e sounds by stridulation. Arius felis and bagne mamus which are marine catfishes have specialized pectoral fin spines that make a stridulating squeaking sounds. In these catfish, the base of the pectoral fine spine is modified, which a part of the base is know as the dorsal process, sounds is been made when the dorsal process of the pectoral fine is rubbed against the pectoral girdles.
☆Hydrodynamic sound.
When a fish quickly changes direction and velocity the sound produced is known as hydrodynamic sound. This type of sound is important to predator and prey interaction and communication. Hydrodynamic sounds is simply by product of swimming.
