Gadgets, and It's Influences

As time progresses, technology became more and more sophisticated. In ancient times, letters were the only means of communicating between people. Now, that mode of communication is already considered rare, as there are already more sophisticated and effective tools that can be used as a means to communicate. Among those are mobile phone.

Who does not know about mobile phones in this era? Even the little children know about it. Almost everyone are already using smartphones, and that includes the children of today. Using a smartphone is no longer just about sending messages or calling. There are already different brands of smartphones whose features are very diverse, something beyond what is supposed to just call or text.

When we come to think of it, children can actually use smartphones for a variety of activities that assist in their intellectual development. Children can use them to search for teaching materials online to help them with their lessons in school. Apart from these teaching materials are research papers, articles, scientific discoveries, and many more that could really benefit the child.

Downloading useful learning videos as well as checking the latest news happening in any part of the world, are some more of the benefits a child could have in using smartphones effectively. These benefits are something that could really influence and assist in developing and increasing a childs overall knowledge.

However, how it is being implemented in society can be different. There are children who deviate from what is supposed to be the proper function of the smartphone. Nowadays, we can see children using the smartphone for negative purposes. Among these are the playing of games, watching promiscuous videos, gambling, and many more. Some other negative influences of smartphones can result to or even initiate violence among peers.

Here are some reasons why these happen:

1. Parents lack of supervision for their kids.
   There are times when we, as parents, provide our children with things without telling them how to properly use them. This can happen frequently most especially to the richer families, as their children will be forcing them to keep on buying these things. Children, then, can go too far in using these things for the wrong purposes, because of their parents lack of supervision.

2. The Environment.
   Schools should implement strict rules with regard to the childs discipline. For me, it is not justified to bring a smartphone to school. A rule can be implemented wherein if the child brings a smartphone to school and uses it for the wrong things, hard sanctions should be provided in order to discipline accordingly. If we, as teachers, will not be willing to guide and supervise the child, then we can expect that the quality of the younger generation will easily become dilapidated. This goes without saying that the community also plays as an influence in the childs growth. The community also has to work together to build a dignified younger generation for the sake of maintaining the identity of the nation.

Conclusion

We have to accept that technological advancements will always have, both a positive and negative impact on a childs growth. Positive impacts that include, but definitely not limited to the facilitating of communication, or making it easy to stay updated with news all over the world, as well as making it easier to find references for projects and school activities. While those uphold the positivity of technological advancements, the negative impact are as follows:

1. Children can become too busy with smartphones making them too lazy to learn.
2. Children are too liberated to access and use the functions of smartphones, this can allow the rise of children who watch promiscuous videos that can fall into free sex.
3. Violence in children.
4. Children becoming too addicted to the smartphone until they become inseparable with it. This can cause them to stress if they are forcefully separated with the gadget.

Teachers should be very wise in addressing technological advancements in students. We have to be very careful in guiding and fostering the positive influence of gadgets in the children all for the purpose of building a better future generation.
