What comes to your mind when you see some Chocolates? Bees? Shells? And Kalamay? For me, only one thing comes into my mind and that is Bohol!

Bohol, is an island in the Visayas region of the Philippines. People who live there were called as Boholanos or Bol-anons. Most Bol-anons I knew are very funny, friendly, hospitable and full of humor. They live their lives with full of smiles and happiness.

Now, lets recap why chocolates, bees, shells and kalamay were all connected to Bohol.

CHOCOLATES!

It doesn't mean literally chocolates. Instead, the marvelous and wondrous Chocolate Hills of Bohol. There are at least 1,260 hills but there may be as many as 1,776 hills spread over an area of more than 50 square kilometres. They are covered in green grass that turns brown (like chocolate) during the dry season, hence it was called as Chocolate Hills.

BEES!

Chocolate is not the only thing that is sweet in Bohol. They have the Bohol Bee Farm where bees were raised for their honey. The Bohol Bee Farm is a very cozy and relaxing place on Panglao island. Owner and Chef Vicky Wallace prepares delicious meals from organically-grown vegetables on her farm--from squash muffins, vegetable lasagna to her specially-brewed coffee from roasted corn and wild berries. This place is worth visiting when you’re in Bohol.

SHELLS!

So as you know, Bohol is surrounded with water thus, shells are everywhere. In Bohol, they have this Shell Museum wherein different types of shells where exhibited to the public. All the shells found inside the museum is owned and collected by Mr. Quirino Hora. Youll be amazed with his massive collection of shells.

KALAMAY!

Ever heard of Kalamay? Bohol is full of sweetness because not only chocolate, and bees are here, also the Kalamay! Kalamay , which means "sugar", is a sticky sweet delicacy that is popular in Bohol and even in other parts of the Philippines. It is made of coconut milk, brown sugar, and ground glutinous rice. Just a friendly advise, wear your ID’s when eating, just in case you forgot your name due to its deliciousness! (just kidding!)

I almost forgot, Bohol has the smallest known primate, the Tarsiers. This animal is as small as your fists and so fragile. This primates are nocturnal, meaning they only hunt at night. Hope you'll visit them in your future visits.
