Parks - Part 1

in #steemitcentral8 years ago (edited)

In view of the interests expressed by the older folks in gardening, and also, in an effort to encouraged the seniors to be more active, the government set aside little parcels of land for the old folks to do their gardening. The land is divided into little plots. These plots are very popular and are quickly taken up.

Uncles and Aunties - over here, we address our senior folks, uncles and aunties as a form of respect, and as a term of endearment - pay a small fee, to show sincerity in wanting the allocated plot, and that it would not go to waste.

Sometimes, these little parcels of land are in the parks. I think it is a great idea in land scarce Singapore. In this way, the parks will attract more visitors and will be better utilized too. They also provide an opportunity for the uncles and aunties to be active, and an opportunity for community bonding as well.

Curious residents from the area would drop by and chat with the uncles and aunties, and sometimes they left with bundles of vegetables. I don’t know if they bought them from the the uncles and aunties, or were given free of charge.

Howdy sir Vincent! wow that's a great idea to have those little plots for the older generation who want to garden but may not have their own land, what a blessing! I thought ya'll were cold blooded over there but I guess not.

Like all developed countries, Singapore is heading towards an aging population. And we know that medical care is expensive and a strain on the old folks. To avoid that, the government encourages all citizens to be active. There are all sorts of incentives if we would just get off our butts and do something - walking, jogging, dance whatever we enjoy. And gardening is one of them.
This is a win-win for the people and the government. When people are healthy, they don't need too much medical expenses, and the government don't have to spend money to subsidize the health care.

howdy today sir Vincent! oh I see, how interesting...well that is wise planning on your government's part instead of just increasing taxes like we do here. Do you know if your country has a surplus of money or are they way far in debt like the stupid Western countries?
But you do get out and walk but that's not enough. I think you should start lifting weights and also take some kick boxing classes!

howdy @janton. The last I heard, our government has a surplus of money. In fact, people think the surplus is too much.
I walk, I swim occasionally, and I have a couple dumbbells which I lift now and then. No kick-boxing for me. I know I should do a bit more exercises. We will see. :-)

howdy tonight sir Vincent! Well that's interesting about the government, that's what I thought I heard about them and that the banks actually had the money to back up their loans and deposits, no fractional banking there.
If I had time I would do more working out and such but it gets in the way of other things, not a priority like it should be so I usually just do the basics instead of pushing myself. But you can do alot with a couple of dumbells.

I picked up some good exercises and tips from this guy.

Hey @janton Thanks for the video but that looks like a lot of work. I exercise to keep fit, not to become a beef cake. haha......

haha! no sir Vincent, the video is just to get your muscles moving and some circulation going, it's not to look like that! lol. It's just to stay lean and strong, not to bulk up. In order to bulk up you would have to do a heck of a lot more than that!

haha... okay, noted. Thank you. :-)
