A Serendipitous Trip to the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the U.S. Senate - Boston

in #steemitbloggers6 years ago (edited)

If someone asks me what's the coolest thing about being a photographer - I'd reply by saying "sometimes you never know where you may be next". I've been on the floor of Madison Square Garden, on several assignments on Yankee Stadium, or even a destination wedding. In this case I was asked to shoot quick headshots of the Save The Harbor Save The Bay Staff (see below).

But what I didn't know where they were going - it was on a tour of the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the U.S. Senate in Boston. The highlight of this museum is a full scale Senate Chamber Replica. I did my best to get every angle as I'm not sure if I'd have the opportunity to visit again. One thing I'll say is I wish I was able to get the room without any people - but at least there were less than a handful...

I heard one of the participants what does "Novus Ordo Seclorum" mean. I chose not to answer it as sometimes it's not worth going down a rabbit hole.

Another highlight of the trip was the office of Senator Edward M. Kennedy. According to the site

"Senator Kennedy spent almost 47 years serving his state and nation as the Senator from Massachusetts. During that time, he decorated his office to reflect the values, people, and ideas he held most dear. At the EMK Institute, visitors are given an opportunity to learn about Senator Kennedy’s life and career by visiting a faithful reproduction of his Washington, D.C., Senate office. Visitors are invited to explore the stories behind some of the Senator’s treasures using tablets provided by the Institute."

I believe it's a temporary installation. Good thing I was able to capture it!

Before I left - I was asked to get a shot of the entire staff. Good thing I had my ultra-wide lens to be able to get everyone in one shot!

And as promised here's some of the headshot pics of the staff:

That's it for now - and stay tuned for the next episode!

I'll have to dig up some shots I took when my brother was a keynote speaker at the EMK library!

Fun seeing him at the dais for the US Senate!

LOL That must have been a kick to see him there!
