Jiu Jitsu in Bluff Beach

It has been 6 months since we had the last visit of our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instructor Ray Quintana. Now he is here again for 10 days to share with us more jiu jitsu knowledge and have a good time with all the Bocas Fight Gym team.

He had the great idea to take the jiu jitsu to the beach and connect with the nature while we train. Last Sunday most of us went with him to Bluff Beach, which is one of the most important beaches we have here in Bocas del Toro.

Here you can see the a video I put together of that day: Beach & Jiu Jitsu Video

I wrote about Bluff Beach in a recent post, you can read about here

The night before we were out to have a good time, but no matter what we were ready Sunday morning with our nogi gear, water, fruit snacks, and go to the beach.

@evecab, our lovely dog and myself were very excited that morning, although a bit tired from the previous night but we knew once we were there, that the energy would have to come back to us.

When we arrived, one of our teammates found a good stop to set up the combat area, he had to do a bit of leaf cleaning.

After a bit of stretching and warm up, our professor Ray shared with us a really good technique from half guard which consist in allowing the opponent to get the underhook and go for a darse submission attack that also allows you to pass the guard.

Once we drilled the technique a few times between us, we were ready for some beach rolling

1, 2, 3… Oooss!

Our dog also had some fun as usual:

After some rounds of fights and having sand all over our faces, it was time to and enjoy the sea:

We always train at the academy, obviously is more comfortable but even though we had to swallow a lot of sand during rolling, we all loved it and we will do this Jiu Jitsu Beach time more often.

I hope you liked what I have shared with you!

Keep training, never stop!

Thank you!

I have watched the video first and I thought that I saw @evecab there but I was not so sure. And then I read the text. I was right! :)

Jiu Jitsu looks so tough. It's a great idea to do it on a beach. Didn't you attract a lot of attraction from other people?

You had a lot of fun with your friends. And what a better way to finish the day than swimming in the ocean? You have it all :)

Thank you for sharing. The video is nice and I loved the music.

thank you, and yes that was @evecab right there!
You made me laugh with your question... the answer is no LOL there were 2 guys that were taking the sun and decided to left away from us, that was funny.

I am so glad you like the video and the music, in fact I am actually listening to the track right now while I reply to you. Take care.

No? I would definitely stand a few meters away from you and watch what you were doing :) Those people probably wanted to have their peace and you might have been too active for them :)

Say hello to Eve! Have a lovely day!

That looks fun training in the sand but I am afraid of the sand getting into the eyes during the duel. If it was a real fight for survival, I might just grab a handful and aim it at my enemy's eyes. 😃

lol believe me, sand was all over but it was very fun, sometimes we had to close our eyes which it brought a nice level of difficulty =)

Kidding aside and apart from the eye-danger that I mentioned, do you think it somehow brought you guys any new technique like "be tougher" or something to that effect when in the sand?

Man that looks awesome. To be able to combine family time with nature, training, animals, and enjoying the beach all in one trip.

OSSSSS!

You make me envious showing such beautiful pictures of sand beach, warm weather, crystal clear water. I can imagine your dog was happy to be there, such freedom and swimming possibility. It is always enjoyable to have sport outside for Jiu Jitsu that is perfect place, warm soft sand and fresh air. Wonderful pictures, I hope you enjoyed being outside and having a swim after exercises.

thank you, and yes, every time we go to the beach the one that enjoys it the most is our dog!

For you guys to go to the beach to practice then it must be something you guys really love doing, it looks amazing..and the pictures perfectly describe the event.

thank you, we love the beach and brazilian jiu jitsu, having both together is ecstasy.

Hi @el-cr, sorry for my ignorance. Before reading your post, I didn’t know what is jiu-jitsu. And have to ask Mr G. Now I knew is a Japanese martial art. I have learnt one new thing through your post. Thank you for that. What a nice place to train Jiu-jitsu. Peaceful, fresh air and water ready to wash off all the sweat and sands :p. Did you guys eat a lot of sands during the training, because you have to fight, defend and protect. I am sure a lot of sands goes in to your mouth and nose. Maybe even eyes. But I like the idea thought, learnt in a cool nature with all the trees and sea side. I love the photos you took also especially the beach view (first picture). The beach was so calm and peaceful. It is a nice place to relax and away from our busy life. How long have you into this training? It really looks interesting, and some form of exercise.

Congratulate on your curie vote. Hope to see more to come.

That's really cool.

I don't think I could get down with rolling in the sand but an outing with training partners is always cool. Looks like fun though.
