WHY DOES MY CAT ACT LIKE THIS

If you remember my post how my girl "Suki" looks like five months ago, you can see a big difference. She looked so frail the first time I met her on the pavement.

She was so thin who never liked to eat. I don't know where she is right now if I never had the plan to go to the mall that time. Maybe she's begging foods in the public places and spanked by some people who don't like cats. 

These days, Suki's fur is glamouring like a rich cat. She is very active and healthy. Before, I thought she is an unhealthy kitty for not eating human foods. I planned to take her to the vet so the doctor can tell me what is wrong with her appetite. When I went to the mall, I saw a commercialized food for cats that is very nutritious. I hesitated to buy it because I wasn't sure if she eats it or else I'll just waste my money. So, instead of buying the pack with highest grams, I just bought the smaller one.

When I arrived home, I was very glad she ate a lot. She is very impatient to eat the meal. Now, she is gaining weight, but not that big. Sometimes I'm worried if this is right to feed her the same flavor as routine? I'm afraid she'll be bored of her foods in the same taste. I'd love to see her growing more, but she still looks small. Maybe because I always laid her and carrying often. 

Sometimes, I wonder why she dislikes laying beside me because she runs away especially when she hears noises. There are many times she doesn't like to run but she plays my moving hair, toes, and hands so I place her in the other place. My dogs are enraged to Suki for disturbing their naps so they run away.

In the morning, she brings preys but she doesn't eat.

When we sleep together and I talk to her, I hear her purr. She also put her paw on my face which is very loving. In my deep slumber, I wake up tickled by her in my underarms by her tongue. LOL.

If I work on my laptop, she sits in my lap and sits on my laptop's keyboard if not discontented. But I am mad because she chases my mouse and bites the wire. Because of this, I lose all my writings. If I use the mouse, she chases the arrow on the screen. If I use my phone, she puts her paw on my phone screen. Even if she's done eating, she sometimes cries. 

Suki is a great hunter. In the morning, she brings birds to our front door. She likes to play outdoor and finds something to chase. 

What would you do if your cat brings the preys she hunted to your house? Would you scold her or spank her?

Suki has no tick, but I see her sometimes scratching her body. 

Why does my cat act like this?

According to a Cat's magazine by Dorothy Silkstone Richards, there are more facts about the cats we need to know.

Feeding:

If we feed, we should provide the plastics or stainless bowls and keep the utensil clean. Have you ever wondered the times when our cat refuses to eat her favorite food? Maybe she doesn't like the taste anymore. They are so meticulous in smells so always clean their bowl. The disposable plate can be an alternative. If you leave at home throughout the day, leave an automatic feeder. 

If it's your first time to own a cat, limit yourself to feed her more than three feedings a day because they need a balanced diet like humans. Release your cat to explore the green grasses outside because they like to eat grasses to produce roughage in their digestive system. You can plant grass in a pot if your house is cemented or if you prohibit your cat to wander far away. Because it takes 6 weeks before we see the grass to grow, there are instant grasses available in a pot. It is a great effort for those who lived in condos and apartments. Don't forget to water the grass daily and wait for 7-10 days before the cat can eat it.

Growing:

We may wonder why our cats don't grow too much. Maybe she has no room solely for her. So, before thinking to own a pet cat, make sure to provide her own room. Buying baskets and boxes as her room is a good action. In this way, she'll grow faster. 

Training:

We can't expect our cats to act like dogs like the "loyalty" thing but we can train them like one. Cats are sensitive. Just like Suki, every time I raise my voice, she enfolds her ears, closes her eyes, and sways her tail. Then she runs away. This character means we can teach our cats in some ways. However, they are very difficult to train as their focus is moved to the distraction. It's very hard to maintain their obedience. 

Scratching:

Our cats feel itchy sometimes. It is normal for them. Like humans, we sometimes find a stuff that scratches our body parts whenever is itchy. They feel the same so we need to provide them the scratching post. 

Hunting and Playing:

Playing and catching preys are linked with each other because whenever our cats like to play, they don't kill the preys immediately but tease until it dies. Cats like everything that moves and jump it if moves. They assume that an object that moves is a prey. It is prudent that our cats have their playmates so they can play even more as playing is their good exercise. 

Loving:

It is natural in cats that all of them have this character. They like a sensible touching with another cat, different animals, and humans. Their showing of love is liking a hand stroke, cuddle, and affection. 

Curiosity:

Kittens are very curious. If we stroke their hair and they hear a noise, they stop. Have you ever noticed when you file the things at home and your cat is there rubbing their head? If they see a box, they open it and get inside. If they see the paper and hear its noise, they will surely love it and they are very interested to look at us what we're gonna do to it. If they see an open door, they get inside. If we go out, they'll follow so they make sure they have a shelter to lay outside too or second home. If we don't go back home throughout the day, they lay in their second home while waiting for us.

Don't allow your kids to disturb your cat sleeping because it's an animal harassment. They don't like to be interrupted so sometimes they are forced to leave the place to find another. Our cats only sleep 65% of their life. They like to sleep in a comfy place and quite. There are times they hide nodding to avoid disturbances. When they wake up, they regularly stretch their legs backward and hands forward. In order for them to wake, they usually wash their fur with saliva. If they are bored, only hunting can relieve the boredom that attacks. 

Cat Senses

Our cats are given 9 senses such as touching, smelling, tasting, sighting, hearing, knowing the temperature, balancing, and the place and time. 

1. Touching: The newborn kitten feels safe knowing the first touch of their mother. Her mother makes nest through her paws after licking her tongue. Then, the kitten will know that there is a relationship associated. It is an association of affection. When the kitten grows up, she will familiarize the second touch she gets from humans. Human touch is a replacement for her mother. Hand stroking is what they want and grooming essentially are relieving their tensions. It decreases the faster throbbing of their heart. Hesitant and fear are the two major reasons why our cats wash.

Our cats need their touching senses to recognize if the place they'd like to lay is clean and safer. To recognize the texture they want, they touch the ground through their paws. They hate greasy fabrics and like to lay in heated and soft texture. 

2. Smelling- when they are born, they usually develop their smelling sense. If they notice that they are placed in an unfamiliar nest, they shout and cry seeking their mother. Then the mother will arrive immediately. The kittens recognized that the smell has changed. But the kittens are relieved in their worrying if they smell their mother's come back. Our older kitten is not worried if they are moved to a new place because they can see already. Kittens would always attach to their mother's nipple or in the litter through their smelling sense. When they found a new stuff, they don't trust it unless they have done familiarizing a thing more.

If we see our cats rubbing themselves to an object, it's their way not to be lost when wandering everywhere. Their smell is their identity to go back. If they rub themselves to a strange cat, it means that both of them like each other and they left smell with each other so both are not strangers anymore in the second meeting. Sometimes, we see our cat fighting to another kitty because maybe that kitty has a bad smell. Our cats are very meticulous in the smell. The bad smelled cat is always rejected if he wants to mate. Before the dream comes true, the bad smelled cat needs to wash. 

When we wander to another house with many kitties, our cat will know where we went because of our smell. 

Moving in another place they are familiar with is what they do if they are new to a site. Those who feel strange in a place might always cry. They become aggressive. But, it can be relieved by love and attention. To alleviate their trauma, we must let them feel that we want them to stay and forget where they come from. Then they will be mended emotionally. Those who are not very emotional can move on faster.

 Cats dislike bad smell so they always clean themselves. 

Fragrant plants enticed cats so we always see them playing in our garden under the bushes.

Sometimes, our cats are very fragrant because they like to adopt the smells of the plants.

3. Tasting- Taste is always linked with smell. Sometimes, they dissipate their appetite, simply because they can't smell. Most of the time, their nose are opened before they eat. This term is flehmening. The scent particles will travel to vomeronasal organ so that the kitten can find more of aroma.

4. Sight- our cats have an acute eyesight, though they are very cunning to see the moving objects than the freezing one. Freezing is their tactic to hide from their cat enemies. Mice also know that cats can always chase them quicker if they move, so each time they see cats, they freeze.

Our cats sometimes love to watch television and movies. They even want to come closer to the screen. If they see amusing images, they don't like to leave the screen.

5. Hearing- Cats are demented immediately against the people who produce boisterous noises and vibrations. 

White cats with blue eyes are hearing-impaired, though their other parts of the body can still eavesdrop. They feel the sound wave as moves through the compact object. 

Cats still like sounds that other people may dislike. They yet love to listen to a song. The melody they fancy can make them feel at home. Many cats dislike blaring music so they always hide to their outdoor home to avoid listening. If you play bombastic music at home, put your cat in your room where she can't hear the noise. 

Our cats are very sensitive when they hear us raising our voice. It's good news because we can dominate their characters. They don't like shouting like we yell them to stop doing their activities. Despite, they like it when we mention their names so they immediately come out. 

Our cats love hearing our whispers in their ears so they respond us by their purr, showing how much they love it. The tone of our voices is not important as long as they hear us mentioning their names. 

6. Temperature- There are many cats that like hot weather and some like cold weather. Short-coated cats like sunbathing during hot climate. During the cold season, cats love to lay in our fabrics to warm themselves. If they feel so hot, they seek the colder place to relax. 

7. Balance- Cats are very gifted in flexibility because of their dominance in proper balancing. They can climb, jump, and run faster. These senses are given against their enemies like dogs and other animals. 

Their bodies curve in the air while they are falling on the ground from the taller height. It is their sense of balancing that's why they are not injured that can land safely. Yet, they will die if they fall from the great height. 

8. Place- Cats can travel a hundred miles and can go back because of the inherent direction finding capability. 

9. Time- Cats have always their routine. They like to maintain their doings every day at the same time. They always expect a food according to their estimated time feeding. They enjoy grooming as their routine. 

Cat's nine senses have always been a contribution to a myth that this species have nine lives.
