Batik adalah sebuah proses. Batik bukanlah kain tradisional dan batik bukanlah fesyen. Batik adalah kain peradaban. Batik dibuat secara beradab, ada curahan rasa, hati, doa, kelembutan, jiwa, harmoni dan cinta dalam setiap goresannya.

"Tenun Delamak dipadu dengan kaligrafi maka semakin kaya motif," ujar Muhardi.

Muhardi mengaku, dalam beberapa motif besurek terkadang muncul ciri batik Jawa. Belum diketahui secara pasti kenapa motif batik Jawa kadang muncul di besurek.

"Ada dugaan saat Sentot Ali Basya, panglima perang Pangeran Diponegoro diasingkan ke Bengkulu 1833 terdapat beberapa pengrajin batik asal Jawa yang turut memperkaya motif batik besurek. Tapi ini masih hipotesis perlu penelitian mendalam," tegas Muhar.

Baginya, usaha konservasi dan pelestarian batik besurek harus dilakukan oleh semua kalangan. Menurut dia, besurek merupakan pakaian yang membungkus peradaban Bengkulu.

For him, conservation efforts and batik preservation besurek must be done by all circles. According to him, besurek is a garment that wraps Bengkulu civilization.
