Facebook dam starting to leak users to Steemit

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

I just recently created a FB group to bring all of my followers over to Steemit and help explain the platform. Hopefully users here will do the same to create greater decentralization and disintermediation of content. Those of you more experienced with Steemit please point out any errors. I'm a software dev, but I've only been on Steemit for a little over a week.

I posted this to my FB group and suggest anyone reading this on Steemit do the same with your FB accounts. If all Steemit users did this, it could create a giant wave of new users. Preaching to the choir here (you know the rest)...

On FB, you're the product being sold because you don't own the content you post here, FB does (read the legal fine print). That information is used by FB to sell to corporate advertisers and FB makes the money while compromising your personal life and potentially credit card numbers due to centralization of data. Centralized data creates giant honeypots for hackers to attack.

With the Equifax data breach, 143 million Americans now have compromised data. That number might be even higher with Facebook.

Contrast that to Steemit which has its own coin called Steem which investors buy to create Steem Power. Then new users are given an account for free because Steemit buys the new account on the blockchain for you. At rep=25 you already have an investment in Steem and if the network grows, so does your wealth. Your posts are your own and good content rises to the top.

Steem is currently valued at one dollar. Most users only make about 0 - 10 cents per post when starting, but eventually one of the whales will upvote your good content. Even at 10 cents, if the Steem token goes from $1.00 which it is now, to the same value as bitcoin, then a post worth 10 cents becomes worth over $350.

Worst case scenario you lose nothing and make nothing, but at least your work is still yours. Question is why are you still on FB?

So glad I left Facebook for Steemit. Nice post!

@kp138 - I've still got a sizable following there and because I run a business, I can't quite just drop FB. But I'm making an effort to convince people of the merits of DAO like blockchains like Steemit. Thanks for responding.
