Share Steemit with the family this holiday!

This holiday season, take some time to share how Steemit works with your family and friends!

While many families and friends will gather this holiday and discuss the usual small talk, I will share about the Steemit platform.

The idea that a person could get paid for contributing to social media is confusing, initially. It just seems too good to be true. The question, "What's the catch?" instinctively runs through your mind when you first hear of the concept.

It is our task, fellow Steemians, to help get our families and friends over this step.

Explain the Steemit platform. Show some articles that interest you. Explain how voting works. Show how you have earned money through posting comments or blogging. Point out the fact that no ads are bombarding you as you browse. Importantly, get your friends started on signing up. The sign-up process for Steemit is the most daunting and intimidating step that is a barrier for most doubters. People are accustomed to instantly signing up to things and jumping right into it. Explain that this process prevents bots and spam and is for the good of the user experience.

I wouldn't focus too much on talking about the blockchain techie side of things, honestly. While nerds like me are fascinated by this stuff, most people's eyes glaze over when hearing about peer-to-peer decentralized yada-yada-yada. What matters is the social experience and the ability to circumvent advertisers and instead focus on the media people actually want to consume.

Spread the word about Steemit this weekend! Happy holidays!

I got another friend to join this holiday season, yay! Yeah agree. Gotta change the introduction depending on the person's interests. Most are still not warm to cryptocurrency, I find.

Took your advice on the intro. Thanks!

I ended up explaining it to my father in law who is visiting for Christmas. He smiled, looked at my wife, and did the gesture of his hand going over his head.

I tried to keep it as layman's terms as possible but he's from an older generation. Let's say #therewasanattempt. Maybe I'll help him get an account created and show him how easy it is. :)
