Hello and welcome new steemians. Today I will explain how upvoting works. This post is a rudimentary explaination about upvoting for newbies/minnows.

As you all know that steemit is an amazing platform where you can Upvote (like) the post you like and get rewarded in the process. But what most of the newbies(minnows) don't know that
Voting Power Depletes.
Yes, here is the catch with upvoting that each upvote gets your voting power reduced by 2%. So with each upvote you give your next upvote will be with 2% lesser power. Consequently your rewards will decline. You heard me, upvoting is not unlimited. So better use your upvotes wisely.
But here's the good news
Voting Power Regenerates.
You can gain 20% of your depleted voting power in 24 hrs. If we do the maths you get 10 upvotes in 24 hrs. So never go below 80% in voting power or it will take more than 24 hrs to reach back to 100%.
Note: All of the above is based on the assumption that user is a minnow and he upvotes with 100% of his power. Dolphins and Whales have the option to power down their vote.
Checking Your Remaining Voting Power
You can check your remaining Voting Power on:
You will see your voting power in top left hand corner below your username.
Happy Upvoting.
