Money is Energy - Neither Inherently Good nor Bad

Some people think that doing things 'for money' is wrong. I suggest that money is just another energy, which when well harnessed can bring massive shift change for the good of all.

I started my career building the Internet, renting lines from telecoms companies and joining these into internet exchanges across the world - we were one of the first independent companies to do this - after the big Telecom companies - it was exciting work - we were breaking their monopoly. As an entrepreneur, I quickly spread my wings and got involved in many different companies. These companies included hemp & medicinal cannabis, linux software and web-hosting, food, health, media and healthcare.

Through all of this, I learned that life is too short not do do the things you love or believe in, but that if projects are not financially sustainable they will not last.

I am not such a believer in 'right' or 'wrong' which is, after all, subjective. However I have for a long time wondered why society seems to believe that we should give low pay to those who we think are doing 'good' things (e.g. child-minders, nurses, teachers, charity workers, social workers etc) and we should reward with high pay those who we think are doing things that are not necessarily for the benefit of others (e.g. bankers, lawyers, insurance & sales agents, anyone working in drugs, pornograpy etc).

Some people that I have told about Steemit seem to question the morality of the motivation of money for posting, voting and commenting. But I truly believe that it is exactly by harnessing the power of the energy of money (as a means of motivation), that can help to encourage people to spend their time and energy to create a new system - creating useful content, an alternative source of information to mainstream media, a vibrant self-supporting community and most importantly a system that is owned by the very users that are making it successful.

Being a strong person is not necessarily bad or good. A strong man can do more damage but can also be of more help in an emergency. Money is like this, it can create many different things in the world and we all know that to be rich does not bring happiness. However, if we can harness the energy of money, we can engage in great creativity and reach far more people.

Entrepreneurs are a force for change in this world, and within Steemit we are all entrepreneurs harnessing our creative energy together to build an international inter-dependent community, capable of bringing change and help to ourselves and others.

I am tremendously excited by the Steemit system and am incredibly impressed by the way it has been created to encourage long-term investment in building something sustainable for the long-term.

Do you feel the financial set up for Steemit somehow harms its potential community aspect?

I'd love to hear your thoughts and comments.

I am coming to learn that money is the spiritual path. I think more often than not we carry a belief that money is dirty, bad, inherently wrong. But really, it's just a tool. Therefore, the use is determined by the user.

Great post! A reminder why this community is great! xo

Nice post @willstephens....I also penned some musings on the meaning of money today https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@whistlejacket/what-defines-money-and-abundance

I totally agree. People need a way to gauge others in a agreeable way, it's part of our nature. I do think it's weird that most people choose fiat. Fiat is a scam that keeps us in debt to wealthy classes. Steemit, bitcoin and all crypto have a great foundation to jump onto once you realize what the reality is.
