Steem in Space! Join Asgardia The World's First Space Nation and Help Me Bring Them To Steemit!
According to the science journal ROOM
An international collaboration of scientists and business people from the Aerospace International Research Center (AIRC) have announced the formation of the first ever "nation in space", named Asgardia.
This is the first nation bootstrapping effort I've ever seen with major credibility and significant backing.
As for the name of course, it comes from Norse mythology.
Asgard being the home of Odin, Thor, Loki and the rest of the Aesir.
The first Asgardian satellite is planned to be launched in Autumn 2017, sixty years after the first ever satellite launch, and will mark a new era in the Space Age as the satellite will be independent of any current nation state on Earth: the satellite will comprise the nation itself, creating its own legal framework, flag and other symbols of nationhood.
I'm thinking we might want to put a witness node on that satellite.
The long term goals of this nation are to create technology to shield us from existential threats such as asteroids and even more mundane things such as space junk, while furthering the state of the art in space bound science with an eventual goal of getting us all off this rock.
Joining is free, there is no obligation and there is no cost. Once they reach 100,000 citizens they will petition the UN for official recognition. There's over 100,000 steemians right now. So I'd like to invite all of my fellow steemians to also become Asgardians. You can do that right now by going here.
We should also try to bring them over here as well. These are scientists, technologists and successful business people, all of whom are high profile individuals in their respective fields. Just having them here would be an enormous asset to our community. So I'm asking everyone reading this to join Asgardia then sign this petition by making a comment below.

This probably doesn't need to be said, but yes I joined them and obviously I want them to come here if for no other reason than steemit is an awesome social media platform with an average IQ a few points above the average.
