Before you go about breaking your head on anything, just relax. Steemit is more about enjoying content than earning money (though there is a lot of money to be earned!), and has so many moving parts you can only learn them over time by reading through other's posts.

Still a little explanation.
On Steemit, post payouts are made in the cryptocurrency Steem and SBD (Steem backed dollars). The Steem is given to you as Steem Power, and determines how muh your vote is worth. Also, without Steem Power, your Steemit account becomes quite useless, as it is worth nothing at all, hence you have been given some free Steem to begin with.
