Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram – RIP
Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to give thanks for the memory of Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Instagram.
We must remember their purpose in life, and what they tried to accomplish, and what the results of their respective sites have been to this point. They were the first phase of what is known commonly as social media 1.0. Yet, like anything in life, they all come to a point where they have grown old. Their age shows due to their shortcomings, their lack of response to the needs of their users, and became intolerant of desiring to change, even if that change is what the users want. They believe that exercising control over their users is of paramount importance. Therefore, they establish rules that to many seem harsh, overbearing, and sometimes unnecessary. Yet, like cattle, or better said, sheep, they believe that they are the shepherd, when in fact, to some, they are wolves. They seem uncaring towards those very “sheep” that are the core of their existence. Instead, they must answer to their owners, the shareholders, thereby shirking the responsibility that they initially took upon themselves before they had to answer to any owners. They were the owners initially, who sold out for profit and unscrupulous gain.
My fellow steemits, do not shed a tear for them. Yes, they are nearing their deathbed. It is only a matter of time until they continue to lose more and more of their strength, until they become a fleeting memory of your mind. Surely a last gasp, though not wanting to hear it, will eventually be heard. Hold close to you the times in which, when they were young and carefree, and alive. Let those be the memories you retain, and the lessons learned by their example.
Do not mourn for them, because another has risen, your very own steemit. A community built upon the foundation of freedom, and unity. Respecting each other’s rights to express their opinions, to be heard, and at the same time, having the freedom to express disapproval without repercussions. We agree to disagree yet remain respectful of other’s opinions. We can self-monitor ourselves, and we acknowledge our accountability and responsibility for our actions. We provide the content, and are compensated directly from fellow steemits, no middle man need apply.
I'm still on Facebook because many of my family members and friends won't use Steemit. They are content with Facebook. 😕
L.H.,
What I have noticed lately is that more and more "big names" (to me) are becoming part of the steemit community. Names like Grant Cardone, Gary Vaynerchuk (big, really big), and many notable YouTubers. As more and more become part of steemit, and more articles, shoutouts, etc., take place, you'll see many come over and check it out. It's all about freedom and if Facebook is cool to them, more power to them. I just enjoy this community much more than the others. Thanks for your response!
a lot of youtubeers are also joining steemit as well, I mean the ones that actually do create good content
You're welcome and yes I agree with you. The "big names" are coming to Steemit.
YouTube star TJ Kirk (@tjkirk) is now here. 😊
I keep seeing posts like this and it's honestly just sad.
You're either stupid or overdosing on fuck-witt-KoolAid.
Steemit is awesome. Steemit has the possibility of competing in the social media marketplace. Steemit is not a fucking holy entity.
Instagram is still growing at an explosive rate. Facebook has billions of users.
Stop underestimating tech giants with billions of dollars in the bank.
Steemit is awesome. Steemit can compete. Steemit isn't improved by your hyperbolic bullshit.
juxpost,
I appreciate your candor. You are entitled to your opinion. You actually made me smile with the "You're either stupid or overdosing on fuck-witt-KoolAid". That my friend, is classic!
Steemit is awesome, and is indeed competing in the social marketplace. I never said, nor implied it was a holy entity. The only holy entity I identify with is God.
What's interesting, is you make statements about myself, about my lack of knowledge. I encourage you to check out my profile. I do have a knowledge base and am familiar with trends.
Peace to you juxpost. :)
In all honesty, I did blow off the handle a little.
My reply to @sidsun has more substance and fewer attacks.
I do apologise if I came off as a cunt. It wasn't intended to be aimed at you personally. It was more of a commentary on the vapid "FUCK FACEBOOK STEEMIT 4 LYF" style posts. Your post doesn't do a great job of fitting that mould.
Either way, I'm glad you saw the light-heartedness through the thorns!
I don't think it's hyperbole. Facebook has peaked and will drop its value unless they build verticals that use blockchain. Steemit will always have a first mover advantage in this space. Facebook may or may not die, but the future is going to be different for social media. You cannot ignore the trends. Unless other social media platforms look at ways of remunerating their users, they cannot catch up. Seriously, who wants to keep blogging for Facebook.. It's overrated.
sidsun,
You said it........the buzz word is trends. The challenge I've noticed with well established companies is that they can have a tendency to rest on their laurels. They can become apathetic. Who thought GE would be where they are at today. Yet, they took on new management, who is attempting to right many wrongs.
I think the most telling statement you made is, "Steemit will always have a first mover advantage in this space". That's big, I confess!!
