The One Idea That Could Dramatically Increase The Activity On Steemit

I love marketing and have helped many sites grow, but I think Steemit is just one idea away from breaking into the next level. It is something that I have gone back and forth with for a long time and the idea is centered around an affiliate link or referral code.

Basically, in order to help Steemit grow I have often thought a referral reward system should be put in place. An affiliate link if you will, that tracks the people you invite to the site. Traditionally, when someone signs up, you get a reward. It sounds good, but it will help Steemit grow in the wrong direction. 

People will just sign up and not really get engaged. That growth doesn't help the site.

I know the idea of a referral code would work, but how can it work to grow the site in a good and positive way? I came up with a delayed payment plan.

Basically, you don't get paid initially for referring someone to sign up, but you get paid 90 days after the person registers. The amount of the reward depends on the activity level and ranking of the person you got to join the site.  

Something like 5% of the earned rewards could be given to the one that referred a good active member and as a bonus to the new member. For example...

I tell my friend Matt about Steemit and he signs up. In his first 90 days he has been very active and is ranking is 60 and his account has been rewarded 500 STEEM and 500 SBD. On the 90th day I would receive 5% of that for referring that active member. I would receive 25 STEEM and 25 SBD. Matt would also receive the same 90 day bonus as a way to say thank you for being an active member.

By having a delayed payment, it encourages the recruiter to support and foster the talent they have invited. 

 

There could be a minimum too. If the new account doesn't accrue 100SP by the 90 day mark, there is no money paid out.

The idea of a referral code and reward system is to get people to actually recruit people they think will be good Steemonians. 

It also brings to light an idea of having a bonus structure for the active members. A bonus given quarterly. Something to think about. That would also help keep activity high during the dips in the value of STEEM, which unfortunately affects the activity level.
