PART 1.

INTRODUCTION
Depression has caused many to arrive at a horrible conclusion of their condition or situation. This has brought pains and sorrow to the families and well wishers of those that fall victim to these horrible conclusions. Depression can occur as a result of; low self esteem, feeling rejected in the midst of your peers, seeing yourself as a looser in the midst of winners. Etc.

        Many people take their own lives, especially when they think they have come to the end of the road in their present predicament, loosing all hope of living a better life, or feeling that they are unable to live up to expectations. For instance, a student studying a course which is seen as highly professional by the parents. This student has no choice than to obey their parents. Or he is studying a course that is not of his interest, due to the fact that the school that was mandated to him by his parents do not offer the course of his choice.  He surely will face some challenges in his studies but will keep it to himself, to avoid embarrassment or being ridiculed by peers. After a while, when this student realize that the time at which is expected of him to graduate from the university is near he becomes so worried, sad and anxious about what will become of him if it happens that he is being expelled from the school due to poor academic performance, then what comes to his mind is ‘putting an end to his miserable life’. But there is a way out of every form of depression, no what may be the cause. You will find out as you read on. 

WHAT IS DEPRESSION?
Before we consider engaging in the great battle against depression, it is necessary to have a fair knowledge of what depression is.
• According to oxford advanced learners dictionary, depression is defined as a medical condition in which a person feels very sad and anxious and often has physical SYMPTOMS such as being unable to sleep, etc.
• The same dictionary defines depression as the state of feeling very sad and without hope.

CAUSES OF DEPRESSION
Depression has it root in most attitude our actions less suspected by it victim. You may ask ‘what do you mean by that?’. Let’s consider the following as causes of depression then you will understand what I mean;

• Low self-esteem: This is one significant cause of depression. Not believing in yourself and knowing your worth can make you depend on people around you. You can always say ‘no man is an island’, but it is important that you focus on building up your capacities. Always carrying this ‘I can’t do it’ mentality? Then you are bound to be frustrated at some point. Not all the time that people who do assist you will have the chance to do that. For instance, you get to a friend and ask him to help you with his car battery, and he turns down your request by saying ‘sorry I am in a hurry to leave for work'. And he is the only one available, but he just disappointed you. What a feeling!.

Low self-esteem is one attitude people least suspect to be the culprit behind depression. This happens because most people regard low self-esteem as humility.
