Steemit Statistics & Big Data: 🚀 End of January 2018 Update 🚀

in steemit •  9 days ago

Thanks to ALL of you, Steemit is still alive !

We reached 11.99 mn visits in January 2019!

There is an important difference between total visitors to a site and unique ones. In this case the 11.99mn include the multiple times a person visited the website.

Therefore, as a good Steemian you probably connect everyday which will make you count for a total of 30 visits.

Therefore, how many "unique users" does Steemit has?

This is a very important question that I will try to answer later on. According to the Beta Analysis from the website I use to compile these datas, it is around 6,42mn !

One quick word about the Methodology

  • Datas can come from multiple sources listed in the end of this post
  • These sources get their raw datas from companies working with them and sharing their datas in order to get access to competitor's ones, browsers add-ons, in-app softwares which allow the Big Data to have a very large panel of users (north of 20mn) in order to statistically have the number of users/visits…
  • I use these raw datas to make excels tables, graphs…

I] Traffic

Daily Steemit Traffic

In January 2018, we experienced the best daily numbers at 1.5mn+; they decreased a little under 1.5mn in February.
Unfortunately the daily traffic on Steemit slowed down to c.400 000 in December 2018. Let’s hope it is just a little setback
Another, explanation could be that people spend more time on apps (Partiko, Steepshot, Dtube, eSteem…) which are not accounted in this analysis.

Numbers are still low BUT it is improving (stabilizing would be more accurate) since January 2018 !

Steemit website is ranked 4,367 worldwide
Steemit is ranked 3,381 in the US
Steemit kept on deteriorating its ranking as it ranked 1400+ last year.

Google Trends

Google Trend is an Indice based on 100, which means that 100 represents the week when most people searched for "Steemit" on Google.

Don't you notice something? There is this little bounce which gives me a lot of hope ! Is it the start of a new trend?

Steemit Traffic share by country

In the Top 5, the strongest traffic increase came from Venezuela with +15.37% visits!

Mobile Traffic is decreasing compared to last month as it represents 42.11% of the total

This is useful to know how people use the Steem platform. Initiatives like Partiko (mobile app), eSteem (mobile app), Busy.org, SteepShot (Instagram), Zappl (Twitter like), utopian-io…, TIMM will probably help the community to grow on mobile phones.

Be Careful with the Number of Visits

Also, remember that if you connect from a different device (home/work computer, mobile phone, tablet) you will count as a "new visitor" on each of these devices.

So as an example, let's say you connected at home, at work and in the subway. You would represent 3 visits out of these 1mn+ Daily Visits.

II] Marketing Mix

Organic Search is once again improving and represents 54,4% of the incoming Traffic.
Organic search is when people research on Google. As the number of quality bloggers on Steemit increase, our content has a higher probability of being listed in Google's Top results.

Different Channels:

Direct: When you type in you Web browser www.steemit.com
Mail: When you connect to steemit.com through an e-mail link
Referrals: When you connect to steemit.com through a link found on another website (github...)
Social: When you connect to Steemit through a Facebook, Twitter, Instagram... page or link
Organic Search: When you type a search term like "Crypto" on Google and you click on one of the following steemit link proposed to you

Traffic Share Evolution since inception of this analysis

The Organic Search Strategy which means the Content Strategy is working as people come across Steemit looking for Crypto, Blog, Travel, etc… related articles.

Referring Social Pages

Youtube represents 32,3% of all the social platform incoming traffic. Reddit is also a strong source of new visits on the Steemit Platform. Last month, Facebook was the second Social Media to bring traffic to Steemit.com with a 27.5% contribution.

5 most searched terms on Google that leads to Steemit.com

What are Steemians main interests?

Gender Demographics

Age Distribution

III] Steemit website metrics

You feel a bit confused about these 3 metrics? Let me explain.

  • Bounce Rate is the % of people that leave the Website after just navigating on a single Webpage. The lower, the Better
  • Daily Pageviews per Visitor is the average number of pages a visitor opens. The Higher, the Better
  • Daily Time on Site is the full time a visitor spend on the website before closing the internet Webpage. The Higher the Better

My January assumptions

  • Total visits to Steemit.com: 11,99mn
  • Assumption of Total unique visitors in January: 6.3-6.8mn
  • Total Daily visitors: 300-400k
  • Assumption of Total Daily Unique visitors: 200-250k

This is a collective achievement and I would like to congratulate all of us! We need to do better and get back to the January 2018's type of numbers.

This monthly report makes me very optimistic about STEEM's future !

As you probably all followed, we have a new communication strategy. We have Steemit Inc. powering down and allowing the tokens to be more Distributed.

Steemians (such as @nathanmars) are raising awareness about our Blockchain on Twitter with the #STEEM.

We have so many projects that have matured, such an amazing Community and with Crypto prices bouncing we might have a chance to attract new users very soon!

Bring your friends, engage with fellow Steemians and make little Tribes !

Dear @vlemon, thank you to share with us those information and set a bounty for it, but for alexa do not seems we are going so well...:(((

few days ago i was travelling on my past post and i saw that many valuable users in 2018 left Steemit, i hope that now with new users Steemit inc. will not make same mistake like HF20 (you can see from the graphic is after october) where we loose over 2000 points...:((

Thank you for your comment and insight.
Indeed, let’s hope we bounce back and bring new people onboard !

Great update! It was interesting to see that YouTube and Facebook are the largest sites to bring people over despite being a tyoe of competition to our ecosystem. However, it does make sense that those sites would drive the interest to give Steem a try. I have thought multiple times to use Facebook again to drive traffic here but I have preferred to start on Twitter.

Hi there, just to be more specific:
They are the social networks that bring the most visits to Steemit. On an absolute basis organic search (google...) are the one bringing more than 50% of the traffic.
Thank you for passing by !

I must say that I'm extremely happy about the Venezuela numbers. it means we are genuinely helping some people who actually need crypto to a great extent. I've seen Dash growing well in Venezuela helping citizens at desperate times. these are the parts that actually make the value of crypto shine.

We have also kept the traffic steady (after the last year's drop) even during the bleak times. I'd say those who are around now are the most loyal ones and the little bits of STEEM they hold will be worth a lot more in the future.

·

Indeed, Steem is making a difference and I feel we touched the bottom and it will only go up from there !
The one that stayed will NOT leave even if Steem goes to 0.1$.
I am not here for the money, I am here for the future !

I am not here for the money, I am here for the future !

Amen!
Now I'd love to see some 10 cent STEEM. I've been getting happier and happier during this bear market because I was acquiring STEEM much faster. Bear market is the main reason I managed make this much STEEM in this little time.

Blog category
I think STEEM is the most promising
FB is because too old - so there are many members
TWITTER would freezes your account casually, so many people leave.
Telegraph has a limit on the number of people and the number of channels, so often use's people will not choose him.
Therefore
I think STEEM should be TOP 1 in the future.

Hi! @vlemon, thank you for this interesting article and for all data you provide us.

    5.bitcoin.com

Very nice!!! Greetings!!!

This post has been included in the latest edition of SoS Daily News - a digest of all you need to know about the State of Steem.

I did about the same research 6 days ago - but I used a different source. When you check Similarweb, most of the stats are about the same: 12 million visitors, 55% organic search.

But the bounce rate mentioned on Similarweb was just under 70%, which is quite high, and the average time spent on the site was about 3 minutes, which is very low for a platform with a truckload of content. I think a simple 'related posts' widget could definitely change that last number.

What I think is really funny, is the big difference in main keywords that brought people to SteemIt. I can perfectly live with the ones you found, but the ones I found on Similarweb actually gave me the creeps:

A puzzle game, an illegal Torrent download and camwhores???

IMO, those top 5 organic search keywords didn't put SteemIt in a good position.

Fortunately, when I checked just now, the camwhores seemed to have lost their popularity. This is the cureent top 5:

  • steemit
  • tor
  • the favourite torrent
  • the rising of the shield hero episode 2 0.
  • steemit.com/@knowkrish

Still not really what i wuld want to see there, but at least the camwhores are gone, lol.

I alos checked busy.org and steempeak.com, and what struck me was that the bounce rate for these sites was a lot lower. The only explanation I could think of was that most of their visitors arrive via SteemIt...
Did you check the stats on those?

hola @vlemon
