ASK: How Do We Explain Steemit to "Lay People"? So that they join us ;)
Dear Steemians,
We want to get more people to join Steemit and dtube right?
But how do we explain it so that we encourage people to join?
What kind of ways can we make it understandable without all the jargon?
Do we have to explain crypto currency? Do we have to explain how the blockchain works?
I want to make a youtube video and invite all my fans from my channel here and get them to expand our community. We want everyone to benefit from being on this platform.
Youtube, Facebook, Instagram - our data is sold to the companies, to who knows where.. But here on Steemit we are the ones that benefit from this.
I know that for some it will be hard to understand and grasp and even the process of signing up is a bit complex. How do we help people come on board and not deter them?

It is difficult to answer.
One of the best arguments to change from facebook to steemit is that on steemit and dtube you are not boarded by constant advertisement. :-)

I always tell people that it's pretty much a whole different world that's parallel..
Steemit = Reddit
Busy = Facebook
Steepshot= IG
DTube = Youtube
but all these platforms on Steem blockchain, they're all connected and they pay for your hard work with Steem. Blah di blah..

Vincy - short and sweet post yet thought provoking. As a new Steemian, it helps to explain what Steem's benefits are and how people are rewarded. I find this is the best way to get people to understand the concept quickly instead of getting into the weeds of cryptocurrency :)

What do you think are the benefits of steem for yourself? How have you or have you invited any friends over?
For me, the benefit of Steem is that I get to interact with people who are in all walks of life. As a correctional behavioral specialists, no days are ever the same but the challenges within my industry remain the same. For me, Steemit is a way to still do what I love - help others by listening to their opinions and provide feedback. The way I invite friends is to let them know that I am able to curate professional content and get rewarded by doing so. I show them the platform and how user friendly it is. Nowadays I find myself logging into Steemit compared to other social media sites :)
Instead of mindlessly wasting your time scrolling your Facebook feed without getting anything in return, get on Steemit and earn some dough! :D
Yeh I find many people mindlessly scroll and waste so much time! The thing is we gotta get the people who post worthy content up here so people will come scroll these pages first!
Let them know that they can earn by making their content reach to the potential audience using steemit.
Tell them its "You Click here and you get One Dolla! That's it!"

I was thinking about this and although it does sound good initially and you do make gains, but the reason for people to join will be based on earning rewards and not making great content or curating posts and making constructive comments. Then eventually the system will be overrun by people who game the system or by bots like what you mentioned happened to TSU. :(
How do you get to be the master of any living being? ...You feed it first, then through it you train it! They will pee and poop but that's just a byproduct of your property, so you'll either have to learn how to clean up after your "property" or train it to do it on its own on the litter box or outside of your house.
