Steemit Secret #1: There is no privacy on Steemit whatsoever. But maybe this a good thing.

This is by design. A thing you have to keep in mind though when posting, commenting or upvoting on Steemit. For the good or bad, every transaction, every step you make, is recorded and visible on the blockchain, for everybody, forever. Remember we are talking about blockchain technology here, which is super transparent and openly accessible by design.

The current situation with privacy on the Internet is inherently flawed and overly bureaucratic, especially in Europe with a fake law called Data Protection Directive.

The reality is that only a few tech giants like Facebook, Google, and the governments and intelligence services of the world know everything about us, literally everything, and the rest of us know nothing, because of power disparity and limited access to data for normal citizens.

Data protection laws are garbage, they are fake laws, that do not really help us, but make it harder for small and medium sized businesses to operate. Especially in Europe the new Data Protection Directive adds bureaucracy en masse without improving the situation much.

However, on Steemit everything is transparent, every step and activity is recorded on the blockchain forever, for everybody. There is no privacy whatsoever, but maybe this is a good thing, because this applies for everybody, including whales and minnows, big and small. Maybe this is the only viable model of privacy in the Internet era, to have complete transparency and access to data for everybody. Then at least we have the possibility to discover and document corrupt and bad behavior, to demask corrupt politicians and bad representatives too.

At the moment corrupt governments use technology to spy on us, why not leverage technology to demask the so called representatives too. This is so empowering. Blockchain for the win.

ps. With regard to privacy Steemit is more like Twitter or Reddit, where all posts and most interactions are also public by default.

I like how open it is. In a sense its really encouraging to see some user Wallets and see the kind of rewards available for people who've been successful. Not that there's any guarantees of similar rewards, but that kind of transparency is a refreshing change from a lot of social media. On FB and Instagram it seems giving off an impression of success seems the done thing, no matter how untrue it may be. This platform has a nice air of honesty or transparency about it, and I hope it never changes.

Agree, I also think transparency is better and the first requirement to fight corruption. Now let's make money and administration transparent (which ironically could really happen in the future thanks to crypto currencies and blockchain technology) and we will live in a completely different world ;)

That sounds like music to my ears :)

I'm 100% agree with you dear , great post

thx, blockchain and crypto are the future 🚀

People like you deserve rewards, success always

Thx for your motivational feedback, every success for you too :)

I think it's very important to think about something first before you post it, because it's always and for everyone available.

True, always think before posting 😎
