1. Buying steem power- Worst comes to worse you can upvote yourself, this is guaranteed money and you do not need to get lucky with with content. The issue is having the money, most people do not. In addition there is a huge risk in putting money in cryptocurrencies because they are so dam volatile. Most things in life are can be improved with money and steemit is no exception.



2. Quality over quantity- This might be obvious but writing a  well-thought-out  post will be more likely to get upvotes than a lot of random posts.Keep in mind that who you are trying to impress are the whales, they would never upvote someone who writes bad content.



3. Number of followers-The way I like to think about it is that each follower is worth 1 cent a day. I understand that there is steempower involved but I like to simplify things. When you follow people they have a higher chance of upvoting your stuff. So the number of followers greatly increases your chances. Something that is often ignored is who you follow. It is a good idea to diversify your followers to further increase your chances of getting that upvote.

4. Replies- I feel like most people undervalue replies. Replies ARE posts and therefore have the potential to make a lot steem/SBD. I'd say that replies don't have to be as high quality as the normal posts but they must at least be acceptable. 

5. Challenges- Although I never actually participate in challenges, I see alot of people making money even though they don't win. Challenges essentially give free views since people are curious about their competition. When doing the challenges it is a good idea to leave a link to your post in the challenge page  since they usually have way more followers. They also seem fun, mainly the meme one.
