The Archer movie

During the weekend last week, I was at The Nest at @beverlyjoe mum's house and I saw this movie about a detention camp for young girls that is far away from the city.

Since the title of the movie was The Archer, I thought it was another Hunger Games movie. The story started with an archer champion and A-student named Lauren Pierce tried to protect her best friend from some guy but it end up she was charged with an assault doing. During her defense in court, her best friend didn't turned up as a witness and it ended up the judge ruled an indeterminate sentence by sending her to a remote detention facility for problem youths.

At the detention center, Lauren finds a fan, the warden cum camp’s director, Bob. At first, Bob who won an archery medal in the Olympics few years back was nice but soon, Lauren quickly discovers that the female prisoners, all teenagers are treated harshly by the guards. She also dicovers that the guards are all male and if any of the girls try to not obey them, they'll face increases in their sentences period, even minor infractions.

Realising that she could be there for years, Lauren and her newfound, trouble-making friend, Rebecca try to escape by tricking one of the guards. They managed to escape from the guard and run through the hills. Together they must survive a desperate warden who is hunting for his prey to make sure his secret stays buried.

At the end of the movie it was shown that the corrupt juvenile correctional facility is based on real one which revealed in the devastating documentary of teens charged with minor offenses are moved through a manipulated system to fill pockets and beds of both judges and camp directors.

Overall the movie was a terrifically engaging action and thriller that makes you hold your breath. There're few times I cringed and shouted Lauren and her friend to run and hide...LOL. It was a suspense and thought-provoking excitement at the same time.
